Scientists have identified a molecule that can be included in the cancer vaccine to increase the immunity of the immune system against skin cancer. According to a study published in PNAS Magazine, adding this molecule called diprovosim to the current vaccine can help fight the cancer against the cancer cells in place of the tumor. Researchers say that experiments on mice suffering from melanoma showed that this treatment increases the likelihood of the patient being healthy in those cases where only medicines can not work.
Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that occurs when pigment producing cells called melanocytes are mutated and cancerous. Professor Dale Bogner of the US Scripps Research Institute said, "This co-treatment has been completely effective in treating melanoma."
According to researchers, if the tumor cells try to emerge again, then this vaccine also encourages the immune system to fight against them. This way it prevents cancer from attacking again.
