POST EVENT REPORT FOR ISDEV2017 HACKATHON

Objective of @brindocorp

ISDEV NIGERIA
Isdev, a short acronym for innovative software developers is a tech meet-up program created to support and train individuals on how to use innovative software for their enterprises. It was also created to provide education on how to develop smart software and applications that are supported on all platforms.

ISDEV HACKATHON
The hackathon also refered to as hackfest or codefest is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software-development, including graphic designers, project managers anbs others, often including subject matter experts, collaborate extensively on software projects.
Hackathons tend to have a specific focus, which includes:

1. Programming language used
2. Operating system used
3. An application
4. An API
5. Subject and demographic group of programmers

The #ISDEV2017 hackathon is a weekend dedicated to developers and programmers to collaborate and build creative solutions to the problem while pushing the limits of your mind and body into creating mind-blowing innovations, thus, the isdev hackathon for 2017 had artificial intelligence as the main focus for the event.
The theme of the event was thus - artificial intelligence: Building smart applications for the future.

Content of the event:
Speaking session
The event included speaking sessions aimed at encouraging and instructing the participants during the event.
Presenting at the event, mr femi taiwo, google expert and cto of inits spoke about the building smart applications for the event, he also outlined the need for smart applications in today’s world. Also we had @surpassingoogle and @oluwoleolaide represent the whole steemit community.

#Segun joshua, lead organizer for the event spoke about how building smart applications fosters one-man connectivity.
Ada nduka oyom (back-end developer) at switch discussed about building the tech ecosystem in nigeria by actively supporting the community and encouraged the participants to utilise the meetup opportunities instead of focusing on swags and shirts.

Emeka ehinze spoke about the power of the hackathon while nathan akintayo discussed about the need to develop progressive web apllications and usman Abiola … Finally, mrs Joyce bassey, ceo of rilcost consultants talked about her career in technology, innovation and execution.
Hackathon session, 419 participants registered for the event while 206 checked in.
This session is divided into two sections:

1. Training session
2. Coding session

Training session
This session was aimed at helping newbies get involved with technology by training them to become skillful.

This session was in two sections:
1.Web application development using django
2.Ethical hacking

Coding session
In this session, the participants were arranged in teams and expected to come up with an idea and were set to implement them within a 64 hour period. The attendees explored various technologies which included various apis that aids deep learning prpgrams. The innovations spanned across the food industry, education, media and other awesome ideas which were implemented.

Team E came up with the @amaryadotai, a bot that teaches you how to cook. They were the top prize winners of the evnt
Another team came second with a @coursedotai bot (jambito), an education solution that assists admission seekers into tertiary instituitions in nigeria.
The third prize went to the team that developed the @elisdotai bot which provides information about service providers around you.
Prize money:
1st position: $500
2nd position: $300
3rd position: $150
Other prizes included swag materials, stickers, isdev branded shirts.
