It's just not good enough to have a really nice product and expect it to sell. These days, it's all in how you market your product. Who are you marketing to? Where are you marketing? There are a number of ways to market effectively that right under our noses.

A great place to market for a sale...

Now this is definitely nothing new, and many of you may already know that very few sites achieve the amount of traffic that Craigslist gets. Created originally as a local classifieds venue, it expanded quickly as a place to advertise everything from jobs, services to sales and personals. If you know how to utilize Craigslist, it can be an awesome tool for generating leads & sales for your business.

Craigslist was created to be a local advertising vehicle. This means that they frown upon someone from California placing ads in New York. They have implemented many tools to block people from doing this. So with that said, the first rule to keep in mind is “Only play ads in your own city”. Craigslist can tell where you are by your Ip address. So if your in Chicago, dont run an ad in Miami. They know and they will remove your ad and you will simply waste your time. So always run your ad in the same city that you are located.

Another point you want to consider is frequency. Do not place your ad multiple times per day. They will be flagged and removed quickly and eventually you may even be blocked from posting anymore. You can run an ad perhaps once every 3 days or so. Remember, your ad will stay on there for a while granted it will drop position as new ads are placed. But its better to have lower position and the ability to post again rather than to be blocked. So stick with once every 3 days maximum.

Mix up your ad. Do not place the exact same wording over and over again. This is also checked by Craigslist. Write a unique ad each time you post to keep it fresh and unique. Also, be careful how you word your ad. If it sounds overly like an mlm opportunity, it will get flagged rather quickly. Try to word it more like a business offering if you are generating leads. Avoid words like “make money from home” or ”home based business”. If you are promoting products, place the ad in the appropriate category to avoid being flagged.

Of course, there are larger cities that you can post in which Craigslist charges for. Most run around $25.

This can be worth it due to the large amount of traffic in those locations. So if you are in a location that does charge for an ad, you might want to consider trying the paid ad as long as it brings in more profits than you spend on the ad.

So there you have it in a nutshell

I know we have all heard of this site as far as our own personal goods but I hope this has provided additional ideas for you and your marketing endeavors. Craigslist is a tremendous place to connect with so many prospects but follow the rules. Only post in your own city, don't post too often and change up each ad so that each one is unique. Happy posting!
