My Idea For Better Increasing the Speed and Usability of Dtube and Dlive

in steemit •  7 years ago

Dtube and Dlive have the potential to offer great utility to not only the steemit community, but the online community as a whole. However, there are still a few things that are slowing adoption on a protocol level. Im not technical by any means, but I have an idea, that if possible to implement, could make life much easier for content creators who wish to use these services. The current issue is the ability to manipulate the resources your specific video or stream gets, based on the steem power you have in the system.

We have higher bandwidth currently for those who have more invested in the system, but what I want to see is a bit different. When a video is posted on dtube or dlive, I want a percentage of the earnings to be taken and paid out to people willing to seed their bandwidth. By offering up your bandwidth you can receive rewards in steem or sbd so it would basically be a type of proof of work system we have now. IPFS has a type of system like this, but paying people out directly in steem will help integrate it into the platform.

In addition I want to make it possible to allocate higher bandwith per video you choose. So if you want to add a bunch of seeders to a newer video you posted, you can control that. The same thing would be the case with dlive, which I have tried steaming on a few times but found that the load times made the service not very practical for many. I know you could never compete with a centralized service like twitch, but at least you would be able to have the video load without stopping every few seconds. Giving creators the ability to control their bandwidth usage and add more to a specific video would be an amazing feature.

Implementing these features along with adoption also add more value to the steem currency which is necessary for the long term. We want to reward people who invest into the system and dont pull out everything, this would be one way of doing so. I actually also suggested a while ago about a developer fund and taking like 2% of the block reward to fund it so we could further develop these types of services. Making an entire uncensorable ecosystem focused around the blockchain is the goal here and we have that ability.

Dtube and Dlive have been doing a fantastic job updating and rolling out new features, but I still think they have to come a long way. I have utmost respect for the developers and for all I know, this is already on their list of things to do. Its hard to keep up with the development and what is in their minds. I do hope however that we can get to a point where speeds and usability rival that of youtube and twitch. That would not only bring in massive amounts of content creators, but reward everyone invested in the system.

💯 % agree!
Dtube and Dlive are amazing ideas. There still need to be some work done.
Great post!

Yeah they have been doing a great job, the feature I would really love to see is the abaility to set higher bandwidth even if it cost a higher percentage of earnings. Especially when livestreaming, so I could do it here instead of on twitch.

Very good thoughts and suggestions for the betterment of the platform. Thank you for your efforts and for sharing.

I think in time when the updates are made and the site becomes more user friendly, people will definitely start to come over. We just need a bit more tweaking.

That would be great, it would basically consist in bandwidth renting.

I would gladly rent my bandwidth is the option was available.

I think many people would, I know I would pay a little extra while livestreaming for people to see the stream flawlessly

Wow! What an excellent idea, i hope they implement the features mentioned above. Thanks for the idea. Keep contributing to the platform to help it reach its peak. Nice one

nice post

Nice and unique concept
