Oh Crap! I Don’t Know What to Write on Steemit!

JUST CHILLAX DUDE!

Take a deep breath, say “Serenity Now” and slowly step off the ledge. And quit making that confused Jackie Chan face! It’s going to be OK, trust me. There were loads of times when I didn’t have ideas for blog posts. When I first started here on Steemit, I would constantly get writer’s block all the time. In fact, I almost didn’t have an idea for a blog post today – which actually motivated me to write this post right now! How did that happen you ask? Because I am ALWAYS thinking about the next topic to write about – this brain never stops churning! So now that you’ve finally calmed down and started to drink your water again (10 glasses to go!), let me share with you some useful tips that will make sure you will always have ideas for posts on Steemit:

Always be scheming

Never stop thinking, never stop planning and most of all – Never Surrender! I know, I know, I’m a sucker for those old 80s hits but they’re a classic for a reason – it’s just better music! But anyway, you should never get comfortable with your first few posts on Steemit – you need to keep writing more! And how do you keep writing – never stop thinking about the next idea! I find that the best time for that epiphany to hit you can come at ANY time during the day. Even while you’re brushing your teeth, shaving or even singing in the shower – if it works for me and Archimedes, it will work for you too!

Write down those ideas

Now that those ideas are finally raining down on your head from buckets filled to the brim with marble sized pieces of hail (take cover!), don’t try to hold everything and commit it to memory – write it down! We have pen and paper and Microsoft Word for a reason. Write down your ideas for future blog posts every day. Heck, you can even plan out which blog post to write today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, one week from now, one month from now, etc. It’s no surprise that the best bloggers in the world are also the best planners!

An additional piece of advice about post ideas – it can be literally anything on Steemit, so long as it isn’t plagiarized, a form of abuse or promotes any type of hate speech. Because in that case, you’ll get flagged so fast, you’ll become invisible…

Get a head start

Not only can you start listing all your ideas for future posts, you can even get a head start on future posts with outlines and rough drafts. For example, if I am planning to do another technology guide this Saturday, I will most likely pull up Microsoft Word tomorrow and make a list of all the individual steps; if I have more time, I can even start fleshing out each step in more detail. That way by the time I start composing my How To guide on Saturday, I’ll have a much easier job to do –I’ll only have to proofread a few things, add a few funny pics here and there and hit POST!

Never stop commenting

While you’re still thinking about new ideas for your future masterpieces, don’t stop using Steemit! Continue commenting on posts you read and enjoy throughout the day. And when I say comment, I mean a really good, well thought-out and well-written comment with at least 3-4 sentences. None of that “Nice post, can you follow me?” cruddy style of commenting! If you continue to leave good comments on your favorite posts, not only will you continue to receive rewards, but you will also be sharpening your writing chops and preparing yourself to compose a well-written blog post of your own, sooner than you can think!

Never stop chatting

Not only should you continue producing good comments, you should also continue interacting with your fellow Steemians on a daily basis. Believe it or not, some of my very best blog post ideas came solely from the conversations that I had on Steemit.chat or on the Discord servers. The challenges being regularly faced by your peers are great things to express in future posts, because it is very likely that someone else is facing the VERY SAME problem and would like to finally see a new solution. That’s where you come in and if you have been diligently commenting and interacting with everyone, I have no doubt in my mind that you’ll be able to produce an absolutely fantastic post that will come straight from the heart. FYI – those are usually the best ones!

Just Do It!

So quit lolly-gagging already and put these tips to the test. And after you’re done writing your post and still need to bounce more ideas off someone else’s head, always feel free to engage @aggroed and your very friendly neighbors in the Peace, Abundance and Liberty (PAL) Discord server, who have a specific channel for folks who would like to have their articles read and peer-reviewed – it’s called "peer-review."
