Simple Image Sizing and Thumbnail Selection that put Daryl Dixon on Easy Street

in steemit •  7 years ago

Now even Daryl Dixon of the Walking Dead can re-size images and choose the thumbnail for his Steemit posts !!! And he doesn't even have to listen to Easy Street !!!

But you can !!!

Easy Peasy Way to Size an Image in a Steemit Blog Post

To size an image simply add this snippet of code to the beginning of your image url https://steemitimages.com/300x100/ followed by your image url https://steemitimages.com/DQmVxVvoDRrBt2oEmAFpoGhPh6GxeeggiDFRFmvyfsVJsEh/IMG_7154.jpg

NOTE: This method will scale the image and keep the original propotions. So even if the dimensions were set at 300x250 it would render a 300x100 pixel image.

This code will produce a 300 x 100 pixel image as seen below. https://steemitimages.com/300x100/https://steemitimages.com/DQmURHgGuBrrvcMHqBNvLRqivYPqBPjnudVjN4QfJ6K45sH/cflogo.jpg

This is the original size of the image when dropped and dragged into a Steemit post ... about 580 x 170 pixels

The URL for the image can be your own or the Steemit generated URL. Yes you could size the image before hand and pull the resized image into Steemit .... but that takes time. I was looking for a quick easy way to resize an image.

What about the Thumbnail Image Used on Your Post ??

By default Steemit will use the first image in your post as the thumbnail image for your article. We can easily make any image the thumbnail by using what we learned for sizing images !!

If you notice my thumbnail is not the first image in this post .... or is it ?? Look closely at the top of my post ... see that little dot ?? That is my thumbnail image scaled down to a 1x1 pixel size !!

This is a simple way to make whatever picture you like to be the thumbnail !!! Yes there is that little dot ... but did you notice it before I pointed it out ??

Need for Formating Tools on Steemit

Just a thought ...... I for one think that the lack of a true formatting tool or coding with HTML/Markdown for blog posts on Steemit make it VERY challenging to create informative posts. While you can do some simple enhancements like Bold, italics, Bold Italics and sizing of text. I have not found a way to add different fonts, color to your text or other simple design elements that would help in creating more informative blog posts.

What are your thoughts on enhanced formatting tools ... you do not have to use them but I think it would be nice to have them available !!!

THANKS for listening ... I hope something here was useful for you !!!

THANKS

Peter
