The importance of sleeping and resting well

Every day for many hours, we lose control of our body and our thoughts. This happens while we sleep and our brain works alone and leads us to dream of moving or simply not doing anything.

But why sleep is so important?

Sleeping is important for our brain to function better, toxic substances are eliminated from cells, we can reduce stress levels and we can react to external sensory stimuli more quickly. In addition, this allows us to potentially reduce the risk of suffering in the future from brain diseases such as Alzheimer's and mental dementia.

Another advantage of sleeping well that has been supported by experiments carried out in different research centers and neuroscience groups is the fact that we can improve our learning and our memory. During sleep, the same nervous circuits that have been activated while we are awake are activated, seeking to fix and strengthen the neural connections made and helping to eliminate those that are not relevant.

How many hours should we sleep?

We already know that sleep helps our brain, but how much is the minimum we should sleep to benefit from that. Actually there is no exact answer to the question, many adults sleep on average between 6 and 8 hours. However, more important than quantity is the quality of sleep.

Therefore, I recommend that you pay attention to the way you rest and the quality of your sleep hours to benefit your own brain and improve your abilities.
