Social aspect of Steemit?

Sorry if some of this has been raised before. I am new here. Really glad to see a platform like this too- thank fuck for developers who can turn ideas into things.

Love the concepts behind Steemit- but right now it seems not to be so much of a social platform- there is no way to Follow, connect- add friends etc. This in one way is a good thing- as it means content stands on merit, and you need to branch out to engage, and it stops communities upvoting on there own content- but it also means the platform cannot be personalised so people are less likely to engage long term.

Are there plans to add features like this? It would be great to be able to follow interesting content creators. Once you already followed them upvoting their content should count for less though. Still trying to figure out exactly how all this works. Sorry again if this has been covered or I am missing something obvious!

I sincerely hope so. This could be huge if there was a good way to build community here. I feel like this needs to happen soon.

sure- I also like the idea of making it totally meritocratic- so you could not see who wrote a post until you upvoted it. Until you follow someone their posts are totally anonymous. It all depends on whether good content be rewarded, or simply using the platform, I guess.
