I don't think steem has to copy the design of facebook. In my opinion in order to be successfull you have to stand as something new, because otherwise people will prefer the original.
One thing I really thing steem needs is the ability to set a passwort. It is even more complicatet to login to steem than some cryptocoin wallets. I think this will discourage a lot of new users.
