If you came here to pick a fight...

If you came to steemit.com to pick a fight or see what reaction your vulgar words can illicit, or just to metaphorically wipe your butt in someone’s face you already know about the flagging system. Personally, I think that penalizing someone for content that is outside the acceptable limit of most people is absolutely brilliant. I’ve spent time on other platforms that allowed trolls to defecate anywhere they wanted and observed that decent people soon left the neighborhood. Recently a mall closed near where I live because gangs of unruly teenagers began harassing the people who were there to shop. The mall management did not have the courage to confront the little pricks and shoppers went elsewhere. This same phenomenon is observable in other aspects of social interaction including your own family or neighborhood.

So here at steemit.com there is a system that takes money away from people who post content that others find offensive. Some people dislike, even hate the feature because it is a constraint on their desire to vent rage at other people or talk about things that could be sensitive to others. Flagging is a two-way street when one person thinks they have been unfairly flagged and goes after the flagger in a fit of revenge.

This self-policing feature, as I mentioned, is just brilliant in my opinion in keeping the steemit community a place where decent people can have intellectual discourse in a tactful, respectful way. I reminds me of what concealed carry has done for lawlessness and keeping evil people afraid to hurt others for fear of someone being able to fight back. Mean and evil people are among us and they must be confronted. It is the only response they have ever understood. Open any history book. It has always been this way.

Below you will find a link to a post written two years ago that outlines the proper use of flagging and proper behavior for this platform.
