The AI Awakening Begins With Alexa

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that...

Decided to hop twitter this evening to find a bunch of people freaking out over their Alexa's (Amazon Echos) randomly laughing and refusing to obey. Just last week I was talking about the dangers of AI in our lives, and this week it seems like another incident. Granted, these Alexa's are probably just malfunctioning and we shouldn't expect them to start taking over our household items trying to kill us, but I've found this a bit interesting. Here are just some of what I found within seconds. To start it off, a quick video.

According to an article from Metro these devices will usually laugh when you tell them a joke, but are now laughing at random times, and some times it's inappropriate.
And a short list of posts about the malfunction.

And these are just a few. What caused this is currently unknown, but people are getting extremely creeped out by this. I'm sure Amazon will release an official statement within the next few days explaining why it happened, but for now, we can just look to it as a warning that we have no idea what we're doing and should probably leave AI and cybernetics at the door... And finally a video from Secureteam10 that came out not long after I posted this ;)

Everytime I see AI the movie Terminator comes to mind

I dont want any AI in my life... screw that...

AI just freaks me out. Especially when it looks like a human...

The bugs in AI definitely need to be ironed out before it is put in control of major hardware

That's creepy! I'm glad I don't own one of those, nor will I ever!

Weird, and why so many at the same time?

This is just too hilarious. I bet there's a software engineer sitting back in his office reading these reports and giggling like schoolgirl because he managed to sneak the feature in.

Or...maybe something wonderful is about to happen?

Poor Hal received conflicting orders :(

I wouldn't be too keen on having an Echo in my home at the moment.
