Do You Want STEEMIT TV? Live Video Feeds on Steemit?

NOTE: This is to some extent a RE-POST, focusing on some specific questions hinted at in a previous post of mine.

Yesterday I published a post about feeding data from the Internet of Things into Steemit:

https://steemit.com/steemit/@claudiop63/steemiot-let-things-blog-they-won-t-lie

I got a nice number of votes, thank you, but not as many replies as I was hoping for, maybe because my key point was not spelled out properly...

I'd like to know what Steemers think about introducing dynamic/live content on Steemit (live video, as well as sensor data, etc).

In particular, I like the idea that streaming  live video feeds (something that now can be done on Facebook) would enable us to set up Steemit TV channels, broadcasting Steemit events directly on Steemit, etc.

  • Do you think functionality this would be a valuable addition?
  • How feasible would this be in terms of dev effort?
  • Would it be useful to define a specific upvoting/reward mechanism for live events?

Thanks for any feedback.

I think that such a function would be great for Steem-it, although implementation would be a challenge.

Something that might be easier is hooking Steem into existing streaming services, for example twitch. (Not really sure what is involved here from the inter-company perspective)

Yes, absolutely! If we enable that, we can kill Facebook :-)

I prefer Steem focus on its gui and add more social things, like friend, chat, downvote button (we need it), groups, banners, internal advertising (why not)., better writing editor and more.

It's too early think about new projects and expansions.

I see your point. However, the beauty of steemit is also its open source approach, so that anybody can/is welcome to jump in and develop new interfaces, features, etc, such as steemstory.com, steemups.com, steemspot.com steem-o-graph.com and many other very useful external contributions...
I have no technical skills to do that, but I'd like to hear as many viewpoints as possible.

I am working on screem which is a new social network built on top of steem with the idea to emulate Twitter. I think it's good for expansion early.

Cool. That's sort of what I am hoping for :-)

make a site like TTN with the functionality to upvote. The chat could be a megathread or something.Or just make a shitton of bots to post everything besides the content.

That site looks cool...

Indeed it does, something similar could be done to steemit. That site is a standalone project, that is somewhat pegged to reddit.

Interesting idea. I'd watch live TV made by this community! It seems like this would be hard to do, but possible, and making a separate interface may be best.

How does sensor data fit with a voting system?

I believe it's worth thinking about a more structured voting system, e.g. one where you are allowed to "preview" content without upvoting, but must upvote if you want to see the whole thing, and/or if you keep watching over time some live content.

I would absolutely love this function!

Yes! I believe it would be a great idea, I give my support 100%

I do not know exactly how or what for to use that function, but when I'll be a little bit more involved in steemit, I'm sure I'll want to have it here ;-)

Umm. Steem can only host text. So i think it would be first important to have a native way to host pictures, followed by vid and then live vid in this order.

That'd be a great idea - if it could be introduced seamlessly. As someone with a little bit of technical knowledge - little more than the humility ;) - I know that doing so would both be hard and a source of unexpected bugs & pitfalls.

If the devs could swing it, it's be great - but I do understand why it'd be a low priority as of now.
