Welcome to Steemit!
Why am I calling my curation discussion Shallow 4 Shallow? Because we have a weird culture issue happening within our community.
A lot of folks leave comments that say things like:
• I voted for you, don’t forget to vote me back.
• I followed you, don’t forget to follow back.
• I resteemed you, don’t forget to resteem one of mine.
And these are just the simple ones. If I am coming across these by the hundreds (over two weeks) and then hearing about them…imagine how big the problem really is?
I had someone ask me the other day if I upvoted every comment or replies that someone leaves for me. No, I do not. Here is the thing to remember, we do not owe anyone a vote. Ever.
When my SP is higher, I would love to drop a penny or two on every comment. I have my limits though – especially now. These are things that we should all avoid doing (some might be done in humor, but if the other person does not get it, then it is not a joke):
• Unless you are a friend, don’t just say two words. You know the hated ones right now “Nice post”…this is the equivalent of a shot fired across the bow
• Do engage the author, by asking questions or offering other viewpoints
• Do not argue about viewpoints with someone whose SP is greater than yours – your reputation score will not recover from it
• Do not ask for a follow, vote, or resteem – it is not a polite thing to do (this is not instawhore or twatter)
Do Not Steal Content
This one has really slowed me down the past two weeks. I spend more time using reverse image search and Googling words than I do voting.
The level of theft, on Steemit, is not only bothersome, but disheartening. I understand that everyone would like to be “paid” – But are you so low that you will steal another person’s content?
The answer is yes. Folks are constantly coming in to the general channel of Steemit Chat to defend themselves. What happens (typically) after trying to get them to the appeals channel – we look up their account and guess what?
Stolen Content -- these folks are defending their stolen content.
I have a few ways we can fix the system that won’t need human eyes has much as we have here and will help us keep the reward pool from being drained by all the wrong content providers –
Stay Tuned

The shallow shall rule the earth - or think they do.
An increasing number of posts and comments have no content - they are merely vehicles for vote buttons.
I have written some tentative solutions, but there will come the point where any "democratic" vote on them will fail.

I understand. At this moment, in time, I am ready for non-democratic Steemit, Inc. to step up.

First off saywha made a shirt?!?! That is awesome! Secondly I completely agree that shallow4shallow is everywhere. I am constantly getting dms in chat that are just links, or can you do me a favor? Do you a favor? You aren't my friend, in fact I have never even had a conversation with you. Now that I have had voting explained to me and have read up on it, I have been spending my votes wisely. Have a good day clever.

So, how might the community discourage cheap or useless posts? Reputation limits? Checks? Captchas?
Will it be a matter of success and the spammers will leave when their methods fail? Will they always just be replaced by new users chasing free steem nickles?
Personally, I think a follow for a follow makes the whole steemit sheep.

Sorry to see you unfollow, and to hear your frustration. I wish you well regardless. And I hope for a few changes around here too...

:) I was going through names that I dont recognize. And apparently I do not know all my longtime folks as well as I wish.
I spend so much time reading new folks just trying to help them be better :) Always feel free to yell at me. Aggroed just comes to chat when feeling unread....

Wouldn't dare yell at ya^^
I've done a few purges, and probably accidentally nixed some that I shouldn't too. It's good that you spend a lot of time with new users. I'm not so connected...
Thanks and stay well :)
