Suggestion For Steemit - Ability to edit posts and upvote, comment immutably.steemCreated with Sketch.

Greetings fellow members of the Steemit Community.

I am writing to you because I have recently become aware of an inherent flaw in the steemit ecosystem.

This flaw is - time based restriction.

I have noticed that there is an inability to edit posts - even if there is a need to - after a certain period of time has passed.

I have also noticed that there is a similar inability to vote or comment after a certain period of time has passed.

My opinion is that this should be changed for the following reasons;

1; Time should not restrict the block chain.

The block chain is supposed to be a tool used to liberate humanity through decentralizing ecosystems and technology.

Yet if it is a tool of liberation, why should the Steem block chain restrict via time in such a way?

2 ; We are Humans - we make mis-takes.

Since each one of us are not absolute perfection, but humans with the ability to make mis-takes, we should be able to correct our mistakes.

Yet, if there is a time restriction on editing, and we only notice a mistake after the time that we can edit has passed, how can we fix the mistake?

We cant, and our mistake will be shown on the block chain for the entirety of the block chains existence.

3 ; Discovering artists after the time to vote has passed.

I understand that there is a payout system that is cyclical and automatic.
However, if someone stumbles upon a new artist and wishes to upvote their post that was written 3 months ago, and reward them with a 100 % upvote that grants them, lets say $20.00, should there not be a way to do this?

The steem blockchain and its steemit interface are supposed to be tools of liberation - so why are they time restricted?

I agree with this. And I do think that Steemit might face some difficult competition from Dan Larimer (co-founder of Steemit now working as CTO for EOS) who is creating what he's calling "Steemit 2.0" on the EOS platform.

So development on this platform might have higher stakes if people start populating that future product. I wish I could help but, alas, I'm no programmer.

You can help by resteeming this post !

Glad you asked :)

Done!

I don’t know. I’m a little wary of EOS because of its centralization. Dan Larimer criticized Steem for its lack of governance but isn’t that the point of a blockchain?

Agreed, great suggestions!

A Frame Of Mind.

The post edit ability after one week has already been addressed. Posts can now be edited after that time period, though the blockchain retains all the edit history so people can always see the original content if they choose to. Some front end sites (such as Steemit) simply haven’t changed the editing user interface to reflect this as it is a recent change and not all of the witness servers have upgraded yet.

Voting ability is another matter. There are serious processing & technical issues that keep all content from being perpetually votable. I think the best workaround is to engage the author with a good comment. If they reply, you can upvote the fresh reply instead of the expired post to reward the author & content.

To be Honest, they actually cant brodem.

I think your last point is one of the biggest issues with Steem. 7 days after a piece of content is published it’s practically useless.

The steem blockchain and its steemit interface are supposed to be tools of liberation - so why are they time restricted?
