I love Nigeria. They call us “Happy people” because in the midst of it all; mismanagement of resources, leadership problems, wastage, and lack of maintenance culture, we, the citizens always find reasons to encourage ourselves and be happy.
Nigerian youths are really hard-working I must admit. They don’t just sit around to see what the government can do, they know their destiny is in their hands and they fight through hardships. Ease is a threat to work.
Blogging on Steemit in Nigeria is really challenging, and many Nigerians who will see this post can attest to this fact.
Don’t get me started on the lack of electricity sometimes. I rely mostly on my power bank as back up in case my battery is close to the red bar. I am fortunate to be able to charge my electronics most of the time at work, both the power bank and the phone. Sometimes, I charge them in the house when they bring the light. Sure, we do have light, but it is totally unreliable.
Most people charge with their power generating set. Even with that, the price of fuel is 145 naira, which is around $0.50, compared to the 97 naira it used to be. It is sometimes a real struggle.
Another issue I encounter with blogging on Steemit, here in Nigeria is our data plans. This is so annoying. After subscribing to a monthly data plan, a week later I get a notification that it has been exhausted. Hahaha. We use a popular company for our data because the plan is cheaper. But then they halved the amount of data we get, yet it remains the same price. Their rates are steep and data plans get expensive quickly.
I was speaking with my friend Jordan last night; just a normal conversation about what data plans are like here, and also what I used in making my posts. I told him I write my posts on my mobile phone. He was totally surprised to hear that.
I admit, it is a real struggle making a post on your phone. Especially when you use the brand of phone that suddenly quits working when you want to make a comment, where numerous comments have already been made. Sometimes your phone restarts for no apparent reason hahaha. Thankfully, I don’t seem to have that problem with this phone, but I have seen others struggle with it.
Making a post on your phone is challenging, especially if you are the kind of person like me, that likes to make between two to three posts a day, many of which are quite lengthy.
I had that conversation with Jordan and I noticed he stopped talking for a while. After few minutes, he sent me this post, a blog post dedicated to raising funds for me to buy a new laptop. Hahaha, he did this for me. You are golden, my friend, so golden.
This is what it is like to blog in Nigeria. What's your blogging experience like? Do you experience similar troubles? Please share in the comment section. I don’t want to make the post too long for you all, so I had to reduce it.
Nigeria is really promising. It's truly an amazing country and there is so much potential here. So many business potentials with massive labour power too.
Thank you for your time.
My pen doesn’t bleed, it speaks, with speed and ease.
Still me,
Olawalium; (Love’s chemical content, in human form). Take a dose today: doctor’s order.
It is a condition that should frustrate fellow Nigerians, but our will-power is to the roof.
Firstly, the power supply is so frustrating that we basically leave our generators running for some more minutes after they have turned on the light to the people. Just Incase they cut it out again. You won’t stress. You get?
Another is the internet connection, oh my! This is the part that has got me a million times and over. My connection just cuts off. It just say ‘No service’ and I’m like ‘o pari’ that ‘it’s finished’ in a Nigerian language.
Most times I go up on the roof to catch the best connectivity. It hinders my activities on here.
These condition are what makes some others give up. But, despite the state of frustration we make it.
When there is a will, there is a way

And you need at least 5litres to power up the i big pass my neighbour generator for 42mins.
I know someone who has to climb the roof of his house @tomilolafadipe, i occasionally use the car
Dont even get me started on the data plan, a total rip off
Network is so bad that each time im on discord and i try to talk, i begin to sound like a vampire robot with broken batteries
Its worse when you have a cracked screen and refresh button wouldnt just refresh lol, then network will buffer for another 10mins before you can post
But we are Nigerians, we dont give up, we fight through anything
Huge thanks to Jordan, its nice to have a friend like him. Just know that i will be using the laptop every thursdays.
Cheers

Electricity is my number one challenge, I know how many times I have to go to feeling station (Gas Station) to charge my phone. I must be there until my phone battery is full so as to watch over the phone, most people are now mistaken me for one of the attendant in that station, because they see me for nothing less than three hours almost everyday... Smile
And secondly, the issue of data plan is frustrating, I can't watch online videos, I can't upload videos to make my post more attractive. I can't watch videos attached to any of my friends post because i have to manage the usage of my data. A friend of mine shared a video with me in the evening, I dare not watch it except if I'm ready to do another subscription tomorrow.... Smile
Another challenge I'm having as a blogger in Nigeria is the lack of encouragement on most of my posts. I wish somebody can just understand what it takes to make post with mobile phones in Nigeria. Many people I introduced has backed out, because they can't withstand it. That's why I always make other writers feel like a king whenever I'm commenting on their post, I might not have the power to vote, but I have the power of word to make you feel on top of the world. Smile
How can I conclude without saying congrats for the laptop in advance. I key into your testimony, I pray I am remembered too. Smile
Thanks @olawalium and @communitycoin

Keep leaving awesome comments like this and before long, you'll start to get some followers with more Steem Power.
Keep doing what you're doing but also find some bloggers that you like who have a good amount of Steem Power (and who use some of their SP to reward comments on their posts.) Leave awesome comments on every one of their posts and you might soon find them becoming your biggest fan.

I really can relate to this. Electricity issues can be so terrible, especially when you dont have a gen or power bank. But I think I love using my phone to browse, I guess its general. Many of us are already used to phones. Hahahahah... We have even forgotten that there is anything like laptop that can be easier.

Nigerian youths are no where close to been lazy. We are are hardworking and energetic. We have a while to thrive against all odds.
Data cost and quality seems to be one of the biggest challenge of Steemians in Nigeria. Either the data is zapped sooner than you can comprehend or in some other scenario unable to use the data due to poor connectivity.
Shout to @oluwalium

Contrary to the recent notion that "Nigerian Youths are Lazy", we are really not lazy. Many of us wake up as early as 5am to start our day to day activities. No one is waiting for the government to do anything for us. We are really hardworking, I must say

Fantastic post! You definitely earned a follower in me. Hearing about your life in Nigeria is fascinating. Here's an upvote and a resteem!
I am from the USA and definitely don't have most of these problems. Every day, our internet providers are getting worse and more greedy. Still though, it sounds significantly better than Nigeria. Hopefully soon, internet providers will no longer be an issue for anyone. Everyone deserves unfettered internet access.
