I published an Ebook this week.
Faster than I've ever published one before.
I've written several others before, and they always took me months.
Why?
Partly because I've been a perfectionist, and partly because I knew that once it's done, my relationship with the book will end. It will be out there, and people might read it or not, but it will have a life of it's own and I won't be part of it anymore.
It's like giving birth and then giving up the baby for adoption.
Birthing a book is a HUGE effort. It's not only the writing, but also the layout, design, etc. - after all, in today's bootstrapping, self-publishing world, many of us are doing every part of the project ourselves.
What did I do differently this time?
I decided to dismiss my inner perfectionist.
Good things always happen when I do that. I should just remember it more often...
Instead of going through the whole ordeal of making it look pretty, I just focused on the content and kept it simple.
Also, I had this brilliant idea of making it a living Google Doc instead of a static PDF.

That had a number of advantages:
- I can update the file any time, so people will always get the latest version, no matter when they buy it
- I could publish it much faster and get it out there
- It's much easier to send it to people - it's a simple link instead of an attachment
But the best of all?
I can actually see how many people are engaging with it!!

Granted, I don't know who they are and what they think of it, but at least I know that my baby is out there and doing something. Hopefully something good!
And if everyone finds it as useful as the very first buyer on Fiverr, then I can be really proud of my little offspring ;)
