Think Steemit Feels Like a Ghost Town? Now's Your Time to SHINE!

in steemit •  6 years ago

Hi Friends!

A comment that I've been seeing a lot lately (and agree with) is that Steemit feels like a bit of a ghost town right now. Yes, it's true that engagement is down. In fact @acidyo just did an awesome post asking people to mention their favorite content creators in the comment section so he could find some new people to follow. It was really fun to look through that list and find some new people I could follow too.

The point I am making in this video though - is that there is an always an upside. When engagement is low - it can be a really great time to break through the noise and shine.

I feel like this happened to me back in February. For those who were here in January - you can't forget the crazy trip to the moon we took. Steem was over $8 and SBD hit $18 at one point. It was a bananza. Everyone and their mother were posting, commenting and engaging on the platform. When the price dropped down to only $2 or $3, people really dropped off the map.

Instead of doing the same, I decided to double down instead. I started posting more content, improving the quality of my content, invested in some better video gear, and spent more time commenting and building community with the people that were also sticking around. I honestly think that this really helped give me momentum on the platform and I think right now feels like another awesome opportunity to do the same.

Of course, I am always an advocate of posting from a place of inspiration - so I'm not saying to just post for the sake of posting. What I am saying, is that if you love making content, or leaving quality comments and feel inspired to do so - right now is a pretty damn cool time to do so.

I always love when conversation pops up in the comments - so I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Ps... I hope you guys enjoy the slightly awkward ending. LOL I've never been good at ending conversations.

Ps #2... Is Steemspiration a word? I feel like it should be...

Xo, Lea

I haven’t been motivated to post for a while but I don’t thinks it’s the low Steem price that’s influenced this as much as the discontent I feel at the dominance of vote buying bots which I always said made this wonderful place less social. I know there are so many real people trying to get new people to engage and that alone Keeps me checking in here.

Hey mate. Good to see your name. @o07 is headed up to Brisbane soon and looking to meet some steemsters. User Authority is a step in the right direction in the fight against bid bots.
We'll get there :)

Thanks @mattclarke I am still positive that the whole Steem ecosystem is a winner. A few growing pains but the future can be amazing if the positive people can win over the short term greedy ones.

Always growing pains. Meeting in person makes a huge difference .

Hey @stephen-somers, thanks for stopping by and checking out my video. I totally feel you on the bot front. I think they have done so much damage to the eco-system. It will be interesting to see how some of these dynamics shift when SMT's are released.

SMTs will be a whole new bag of opportunity. I must admit I don’t really understand them but looking forward to them being released.

100% agree that Steem has so much potential for content creators!

Mastering content creation and distributing our brand on centralised social media is a difficult and long process. With Steem blockchain we've an advantage of being an early adopters and we just to little more passionate with creating content.

Super excited to SF3 and Have a lovely weekend :)

Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment @nathanmars! It will be awesome to meet you at SF3!

I totally agree that everyone who is here creating content right now is still an early adopter. I think we've got a pretty exciting road ahead!

Thanks. I’m not good at commenting but I just felt good content creators like yourself loves comments and feedbacks, so I wrote something.

Excited to meet you at SF3:)

You're such an inspiration!! Keep it up beautiful lady xoxo

aww Bonnie!! I was so excited to see your name pop up in my notifications earlier! I've definitely missed you around here! I hope you are doing well my friend. <3

heya @coruscate ... you advise is just spot on ! All efforts done now will surely payoff when Steem rises to its glory days once more . Cheers !

Thanks for stopping by @bitrocker2020! I think next time we have a big spike people are going to lose their minds! haha A lot of people have joined the platform since our big trip to the moon back in January. It's gonna be so fun.

@steveblucher and I go way back, and about 10 years ago we came up with a simplified way of ending phone calls.
When one of us has said everything he needed to, he says, 'Done?'
If the other guy has also shared all relevant information he replies, 'Done', then we both just hang up.
It feels incredible to dodge that onerous farewell gibberish nobody likes.
Give it a try :)

oooh I like that! I'll have to give that a try. It might sound better in an aussie accent though. hahah I'll get working on it.

@o07 actually gave me and my sister a challenge to go through a bunch of aussie slang and see who says it the best. LOL hoping to film that when we hang out in a few days. We might need to have you pitch in as a guest judge too. ;)

#thereisanothersayingtoadd Hooroo: means 'goodbye' in the outback.

My thoughts exactly. Steemit has been a ghost town lately, I'll admit to posting less however we should all keep our quality up. There are still many people who have realized that quantity is more rewarding than quality and aren't ashamed to post low quality often. A few hundred words and a relevant or high quality original photo is a standard for my support.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment @crypticat! I think that you hit the nail on the head with the whole quantity over quality thing. It's definitely a bit of an issue. For example, let's say there are two people working on making content all week. The first one posts something everyday and the second one works all week on making something truly amazing and spectaculr. Who's going to earn more? The first guy... hands down. It's the opposite on YouTube because the goal is to go viral. That only happens if your content is amazing and really stands out .

I'm not necessarily saying that one is better than the other - but being honest about the type of content our system encourages is important.

Hello, dear! Always be excited to watch your new video. And you're the of my fav steem creator. I have a plan about make my own video.

Steemit makes me more creative every day, and makes me have lots of fun new hobbies.

aww your comment just put a huge smile on my face! Steemit is such an awesome spot to explore your creativity because there are so many supportive people! Best of luck in making your video! Feel free to ask me any questions if they come up. :)

Thank you for the motivation!

I joined steemit back in February and I had a list of ideas about the content I wanted to produce and articles I wanted to write. But, in the end, I got consumed by work and also a personal project I started to work on, which made me feel great but without the energy to write. Before I new it, months past since my introduction post.

When I visited steemit again, it seemed like a completely different platform overridden by bots. However, that didn't discourage me and I created a format which will ensure that I am actually going to post here more or less regularly (not everyday, because I don't have time nor energy as this is not my job, but I hope for every week).

I wrote a kind of a "bucket list" article with 10 things that I want to do before the end of this year and I plan to follow up when an item of the list is checked :) It may seem like bragging about my accomplishments (well, it is a bit ;) ), but I believe that I should put out content that I would like to read (consume) myself, and this is it.

Oh what a great idea!! Sometimes just posting about something can help give you a little accountability! I hope you are able to cross off all of the items on your list this year! <3

Thank you! I will try :)

see it like this: in a ghost town you have alot of space to dance.

oooh yeah!! I like that analogy even more!

Nice post @coruscate! I am new on steemit, and I know something that offers great rewards can not be so easy. I know that if i want to take advantage of this community, I have to give my best to it. So, if something similar to what you said happened in juanuary occurs again, those who keep working will be rewarded.

I hope whales in steemit will discover Filipino steemian whose still in steemit despite of the prices. Filipino blogger and vlogger are also good. @acidyo @coruscate @joeparys @slowwalker @gringalicious @joythewanderer @scottdphoto @exyle @kpine @newhope @teamsteem

Thanks for the update Lea, I'm slowly ramping up in the background to shift up my sharing. 😃

I always liked your motivational posts, usually keeps me going and i think it has the same effect on many others.

Your initiative of curating quality "Introduce Yourself" is great.

We are new on Stemmit. And today we uploaded our first video on DTube. Greetings from Austria.
