Can Steemit Be More Profitable To All ALL Musicians?

in steemit •  8 years ago  (edited)

YouTube monetized and placed ads all over this duet cover video of 'Say Something', which my girlfriend and I spent many hours performing, mixing, and editing. YouTube takes ALL revenue, to split with the publisher.

The original artists get very little, if any, of this profit, whilst my girlfriend and I merely get "free" hosting space, whilst being used to fill someone elses's pockets, with our unique take on the song.

Steemit makes the potential for artists to connect directly to those who enjoy their work, cutting out avarice-ridden middlemen, who charge exorbitant amounts for very minimal marketing (they have built networks for easy marketing, and MONOPOLIZED them, often times)

As a musician, Steemit has huge potential. I can't wait to watch this platform evolve and revolutionize the music industry, as hoarders of other talent's deserved revenue- for their passion, performance, ability to connect and INSPIRE those around them into achieving for things just past their grasp.

You just wait until Christina Aguilera realizes she, and her trusted team, can upload steaight to Steemit for like. I bet she'll make WAY more money than going to a publisher and begging for shelf space and fairer contracts.

You just wait.

Good stuff... deserves more upvotes.

Maybe (in the YouTube description) you should people that like the video to come to Steemit and upvote here. I think you make some valid points around monetisation that will resonate.

P.S. - don't forget to hold back a little of the earnings on this in case the music publishers come knocking one day! :)

Steemit should allow users to Boot Leg Copywrite their content, as well as having native support for uploading .mp3 and such to the page.

I could see steemit being hudge for underground artists trying to gain exposure...(

I do music also and I know this platform will be huge for artists in near future! Great Share!!!

I think this platform can blow other platforms away in terms of revenue payed out to content creator. The creator gets the bulk of the upvote revenue and its really enticing for the creators to create even more knowing that they are taken care of.

Well done Janelle and Omar !

Nice Job !
Great voice dude. Girl is good too, but your emotion really shines through.
Nice ballad cover.

One bit of post pro with autotune and 3 slip edits when you harmonize and it could be a record IMHO.

And YES let's really hope this platform takes off so content providers can see their money.

Thanks bro! She's actually a well trained singer who can kill it, vocal quality wise, much more consistently than me. She also demanded that I at least try to act, so you can thank Janelle for the whole video.

Thanks for the mad props and for the advice. I've never been good with autotune, and have lacked the time to take the effort to care enough to look - it's pretty much the steroids of vocals, and unprofessional singers really frown upon it, as I'm sure you already are aware. What exactly is a slip edit?

Yes! We need to get musical and creative content paid well, to attract the big dogs of that world over here, in curiousity. Let's make this new cultural revolution happen!

Guys...i dont want to be mean or rude or anything like this...but i really didn`t enjoyed listening to this. Anyway is just my sincere opinion. Best regards.

I appreciate the sincere attempt at a comment, however it only seems rude when you negatively say something (pun not intended lol) and don't give any reasons to justify why you didn't think it was quality content.

If you just personally didn't feel like it spoke to you, then that's also fair.

Thanks for the comment.

The reason i think is the girl...she sound ..let`s say not so good. But again mate this is just my opinion. Maybe the others like it. Maybe i am the problem :D

That is good that you are honest!

That's okay. I don't expect everyone to love my singing, so when one person among the masses feels the way you do, I remain largely unaffected. There's no need to apologize for sharing your opinion, although what I decide to do with that opinion after you've volunteered it is entirely my choice. 😉 Thanks for listening.

That's a great song thanks for sharing that cover, I enjoyed it. I'm curious how YouTube and others will react when Steemit starts eating into their revenue. Is it safe to say all future covers you do will be released here instead of there?

The YouTube adverts still appeared all over this video, so Google have as much chance of revenue as they always did.
Unfortunately I already own Windows 10, so the ad didn't work on me ;-)
So I guess Microsoft just financed this video ;-)
Thanks Satya Narayana Nadella

Good point. I guess I meant when artists bring their talent here first in numbers that catches their attention.

Well done crypto.

Hmm quality content, let me guess....$20? This platform is so far from being fair yet :)

  1. Funk-chea! I dig this song man... your performance of it was great.
  2. Are you a YouTube partner? If not then you should see about signing up for it... you'd make 51% of that ad rev my man.
  3. If your music is both a passion and commercial aspiration then there are ways to really go for it and get your stuff out there to eventually turn it into something mad-profitable.
  4. That bit about mainstream artists posting their stuff on steemit, I think you are probably right, at least to some degree seeing as how they'd probably still have to get some big accounts up-voting their stuff... but could you imagine if the opposite were the case and they went bust lol. It's messed up but still kind'a funny... not like they aren't multi-millionaires already.
  5. Awesome performance yet again... I'm impressed by your multi talents man, respect.

You guys have mad talent!
I have some predictions about content hosting in regards to Steemit. I think it is amazing that this design is so slim. The entire blockchain is only around 3.5 GB right now because it mainly holds text. It is piggy backing off all these other services to host images, video....etc. My prediction is that eventually those unprofitable services that host all this data will get upset and block Steemit. Not all of them will but I feel like some of them will. I saw a post that imgur was already blocking Steemit. So I guess the idea that a musician would "upload straight to steemit" .... .... I almost think there would always have to be some other service like SounCloud or something hosting the song or YouTube or Vimeo. The overhead for hosting that type of content is so high and I think it is brilliant that Steemit is able to leverage everyone elses bandwidth they are giving away for free..... For now!

Steemit has the potential to get you a big income for a small piece of work (1 song) on a short term(30 days, most of the money comes within the first 12 hours).
Youtube has the potential to create longterm cumulative income. Yes, youtube takes like 80% of add-income away, but once you have a channel with daily views ~50 000, your income might be 2000$ month.
Right now I don't see that old blogs are being raised to the top that much. On youtube it doesn't matter if you posted your video 1 hour or 1 year ago.
My thoughts on this.
It's best to use as many mediums as possible for max profit.

I'm a musician as well and really considering doing music here. Just not sure if this is where the listeners are yet. Thanks for the inspiration!
