Steemit is mentioned around the 7:10 mark for those wanting to listen.

thanks for that!

That's where I heard about Steemit! Joined immediately.

Well I'm here from that video! I actually started to look into other services that are decentralised because it seems like a lot of them are starting to have "twitteresque" terms of service (one of them I kid you not said you cant say any "ableist" terms). Looking at the terms on this seems pretty good!

Awesome! Here is something interesting. If you example, steemit.com was attacked by Germany to delete certain piece of content, it could be taken out from the website BUT people like @good-karma is working on a blockchain desktop app that will be 100% censorship resistant...since it's not on a website!

Oh yeah its a great use for the blockchain! Excited to see what people build off of it :) Oh man if @good-karama can make it as a UWP id love them forever haha!

just hang around, big changes coming soon as we scale to millions of users. We are still in beta :-) Just followed you.

Sure will be! Place supports markdown and I can reference it with html! Its my new Diaspora*

Are you a developer?

...

...

I guess you could call me that? I do like to make stupid script things for #Secondlife and #Opensim, and other stuff like that. Do a bit of webdev junk too sometimes. THAT does involve more than wordpress! HA

And we already have busy.org as another view into the steem blockchain as well. The potential usage cases for the steem blockchain if people would simply embrace them are pretty staggering.

I was a bit bummed with the Computing Forever on how much time he spent reading about Synereo and other things that really are not doing much now, and he only briefly mentioned steemit which is the only one that has actually been functional for nearly a year. Steem blockchain is over a year old. Steemit.com is not quite that old yet, but it's getting close.

Oh that's really cool, I have been trying to throw comments about diaspora to some of the youtubers that have moved over to minds (mind you that was before I realised that this existed). I honestly see this as being more of a solution than anything else I've seen out there. I should have kept in touch with whats been going on in the blockchain sides of things.

That was a really good watch, and nice to see steemit get a mention even if it was only a small mention!

I sent him a message promoting Steemit a while back. He never replied, but nice to know that he's at least aware of Steemit now.

I did too.. though I just replied to that video as well. I sent him and several other people on youtube replies and messages about steemit for some time now. Especially when I encounter anyone talking about censorship.

Dave, one of the greatest speakers we have atm :) I've actually been wondering that he hasn't been talking too much about decentralized technology / blockchains.

God Damn, he barely mentions Steemit after talking for minutes about Synereo and AKASHA, two platforms which for all intents and purposes may as well not yet exist. Steemit is here and works right now. If you want people to move to censorship resistant platforms, it's the one to point people to, because they can start right now.

It is all about marketing :) And understanding of the drivers of the people like this guy, for Steemit brand to be promoted by them. Also that is marketing and a little bit of business planning and sales.

I'm not sure I follow, what's all about marketing? You mean that AKASHA and Synereo have better marketing than Steem?

I suppose. Also the marketing towards this guy Dave? in the video, he mentions Steemit, but apparently he doesn't understand it, doesn't know it, or doesn't like it, or whatever. We saw in the video that he did only spend very little time on Steemit, and more on initiatives that are not there yet. Its part of the marketing effort to understand why this guy is not spending more time on Steemit, something that is real, that is alive.

True, but I notice that he linked Steemit.com in the description but no links to the others. It could be wishful thinking but perhaps he is planning on more with Steemit :-P

Only time will tell, but would be good for Steemit Inc (marketing) to create/keep a warm relation with him :)

This is how I found steem. Glad I made the effort to scoot on over here.

If you allow me, I like to ask a question since I'm still not clear on my own position: "Do you believe in 100% free speech without any rules?" Showing respect to others is a rule to me. So far, I have Respect at the top of my list, above free speech, or maybe at the same level, but somehow they go hand in hand with me.

the question is if you put "rules" on free speech, who decides what they are? Of course, there are laws about treats of violence / child pornography / etc. but that's already a provision on free speech law.

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

I agree it'll be hard, even unwanted to put Respect for yourself AND others into laws. But it seems to me that Free Speech is miss used in eg my own home country to deliberately upset entire groups and communities; For their own personal gain, at the cost of others. This is harming a society. I have no answers how be honest. I do not think bad at all when you crack jokes at the expense of others, but when using it for personal gain, that is another topic.

the things is that as long they are words, it's better than actual actions. If you crack down on those people for stating their opinions, they may just get real weapons instead. The best remedy for a bad idea is a better idea. You need a flow of communication for society to move forward and that means that "bad ideas" need to be protected too.

I understand what you mean. I like to ask your view on this one:
One of our politicians made the statement to his audience (in public): "Do you wan to have more or less Moroccans in our country". The audience started shouting "fewer, fewer, fewer". You have to know that the audience was prepared for this question and their response before the speech of the politician started, but that was not proven as per rules of proof by the court. Apparently they also used the live comedy show tactics, people in the room who more or less tell the crowd what to do, applauding, shouting or whatever. This politician was brought into the court room for this, but in the end the judge gave him a free pass stating something like "He is a politician and politicians should be allowed to do this kind of things and he is punished enough already". The later remark is based on the fact that this politician is under threat if his own life by the same groups of people he continuously demonizes.

So his opinion shouldn't be allowed? Here is an example: What if, for some weird reason, 95% of the crime were perpetrated by moroccans in your country? Could someone who is running for office say that they want less of them in your country?

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

The stats are by far not that extreme. But lets say that indeed the majotiy of the crime is done by a specific group. And lets say it are 5.000 members of the community who are the actual criminals. Lets then further say that the entire community consists of 250.000 members. Is this helping the situation? Don't you think that such way of work is actually worsen the whole thing? 250.000 people feel being the victim. Some group of people start thinking that actually ALL Moroccans are bad news. Progressing in time, things will become more extreme and the extreme groups become bigger in size. To be honest, that is THE issue now in entire Europe. And in the world actually. The distance between Christianity (white world) and Islam is becoming bigger and bigger due to a very small minority of the communities on both sides making things worse. If we are not careful, this will explode into a world war, number 3, I'm afraid.

would the solution to be silencing one side? Or would it be to have an honest debate where both side of the issue can speak and let people make their own minds about it?
