Proposal: Steemit Negative Payout

in steemit •  8 years ago  (edited)

In the same way one post is now rewarded for receiving up votes, one post could be "rewarded" negative payout if it is flagged more than voted.

I am bringing here to discussion some of the things that could be changed in the Steemit platform to create this.

We have now the "hot" and the "trending" menus. Steemit developers could add the "worst", "bad" or the “list of shame" (maybe not right in the main menu). This menu will list the top flagged posts.

Each user will have one STEEM Power Negative Balance and SBD Negative Balance in the wallet too. If one posts has negative balance, this will be added to negative balance from the user wallet.

For one bad post, the user will accumulate negative earnings that will be reduced only by future earnings or if the user will pay to cancel them.

All the future earnings will be added based on the formula:

Balance = Earnings + Negative Balance

Users will be able to pay for that negative balance to be zero.

Only users with zero negative balance will be able to withdraw STEEM or SBD!

This negative balance will appear only after the first 30 days after the account registration because we must give some time to new users to learn that the quality of their posts is important and that posting bad content could produce costs!

This could bring one major quality increase and will help us have one clean platform and get rid fast of the people spamming and posting bad content.

What do you think?

It is a bad idea as it can be abused... and it will most likely be with revenge flagging.

This type of abuse ( for revenge) is possible now too but I don't see this being one big problem. This type of abuse will be fast discovered and people abusing will be spoted and get community mustration. I think abusing such a feature will involve big reputation risk.

When people start revenge flagging they don't usually care much about their reputation... look just how much trouble @r4fken has caused when he started revenge flagging just about everyone and how much time it took for the issue to be resolved. Imagine tens of people like that that not only flag you inappropriately, but bring you negative balance... this will just drive away more people that it will help the platform.

There will always be bad actors on any scene, I agree that such a feature could be abused but in the same time (or more than being abused) could scare all the plagiators and eliminate majority unwanted authors. Don't you think?

No, not really... if they have nothing to lose how will it scare them.
Most of them don't get to stay for long as they usually are caught at some point if they continue with non original content claiming it is their own.
What is much more important is not to encourage such people that are in for some quick bucks and they will just stop coming.

It looks ok but what if a certain member will go mad and flagged authors like what happen few days ago. This kind of author doesnt seem to care if his reputation will lost which makes it unfair to those who cares.

Those are exceptions I think - "certain member will go mad". Members are generally responsible for their actions here.

The possible reason why an author could go mad is due to jealousy, jealousy of not getting vote while others are earning a lot.

One down vote from a whale and the guy will have debt more than individual US citizen.. :D :D
It's a good idea.. I liked the "Hall of Shame"/"List of Shame".. :D :D

Bad idea

why?

Interesting idea, but could it be abused?

What problem are you trying to solve with negative rewards?

I think this is a poorly thought out idea. It doesn't address potential abuse nor does it show the effect that negative balances would have on the entire economy. What happens if users amass debt?

I think this will put plagiators in the posture of accumulating debt. They will not be able to withdraw funds and will decide if they want to produce good content to pay for debt or to leave.
