Since I've recently moved past 1 month being on Steemit, some of my earliest posts just started getting past their second payout period. Not that I expect to earn much from that, but because some of them are guides there is some discussion still going on with people mostly asking questions. The problem I see is that after the second payout discussion cannot continue as commenting gets locked, though I still see the Reply button, get a preview while writing and just when I hit the Post button I get unpleasantly surprised that I cannot add another comment. This probably needs to be fixed as people might get confused by making the Reply buttons inactive after the second payout.
So things go like this at the moment:
- You can edit your post before the first payout in 24 hours (or a little more)
- You can post comments under Blog posts that have not reached their second payout in 1 month
The Edit button gets removed when you are no longer able to use it, but the Reply one remains and is active, or at least get this idea when you click it and start writing until you get an error message as on the screenshot. This probably needs to be translated into a more human readable format, so the general public may also understand the meaning.
So what if you want to give your readers the option to continue commenting and asking questions or looking for some help after the 1 months payout under an article like a Steem mining guide for example. I guess the only reasonable thing is to repost the Blog post to allow for another month of discussion. This should not count as a spam or a thing that you should not be doing, especially when you note it is a repost or maybe note you are reposting with some updates, right?
That does not mean you should be reposting all of your old articles, but some might be worth updating and posting again, so that new users will be able to find them easily without having to dig too much. What is your opinion for reposting content in general and more specifically reposting after a month for posts that can be useful and helpful to new users?

I've been reading a lot of older (2-4 month) posts lately for more information on the history of what I have joined. I noticed another "bug" in the Steemit GUI whereby the payout amount is still displayed, but the vote count is reset to 0. Like the Reply button, the upvote ^ symbol is still displayed but non-responsive.

Hey cryptos, maybe instead of re-posting an old post, write an update linking back to the original post and include new material or advice.

That's a good idea. Indeed, I think @cryptos was saying precisely 'repost with updates'. Since people are not necessarily and I think there is starting to be a rising awareness that 'winning big votez' is not the only thing to be doing here, especially people who are posting useful information a writer has gained through some process or other, especially, I think, how-tos and stuff relating to steem-ware (software that works with steem), there is a definite need for a logical place for it to go, why not on the blockchain?
Maybe something like, at the top:

I don't see why posts should be locked after a month and they definitely need to make it clear whether you can comment or not. The error messages are not clear. People will find old posts via Google and they may still be relevant. Can a post still earn after a month? Why shouldn't it?

After the second payout ina month there are no additial rewards for the post, that is why it is being locked for comments as well...

Seems wrong to me. Should still allow comments, even if they do not earn any more
