Can we stop follow-for-follow please?

Follow for follow hurts steemit!

I can't be the only one who thinks that follow for follow is irritating. Steemit is a platform that allows us to follow people who write content that we enjoy, and be followed by people who enjoy our content. The whole idea of follow for follow goes against this idea, if you follow people for the express purpose of gaining a follower back it doesn't help either party. You only get upvotes from people who enjoy your content, people who have followed you just because you followed them are probably not going to even click on your content when it comes up in their feed.

I have a small following of about 330, but they were organically grown. Presumably they followed me because they enjoyed at least one thing I wrote and that is how it should be. I realise me posting this might lose me a few followers, and that's okay, because I'm here for the long run. I believe in Steemit!

Steemit doesn't need follow for follow and I think it actually harms it as a whole. All that time and energy going into asking for followers could have been used to contribute a great post that will attract followers anyway and possibly attract people from google.

Every time a great post is written on steemit, it adds to the wealth of knowledge on the platform and increases the chance of somebody wanting to join.

So please guys and girls, save up the time and energy you are wasting on begging for follows and write your best post so far, I guarantee it will bring you more upvotes in the long run.

Comment for comment? Shoutout for shoutout? Lol what happened to let's just post about interesting stuff and see what happens? As an activist I find it important to have active followers who agree with your ideals. I have over 300 followers and I think 10-20 of them are actually real enough to upvote my posts about how POISONED we are every day 😏 Hard life waking people up from the matrix..

It's funny that you just post this because someone just asked me follow for follow minutes before your post

I'll just post a link to your post whenever I'm asked that now, thanks for the good work :)

Thank you! There's nothing wrong with following them IF you look at their profile and enjoy their content. If you don't however, don't bother lol.

Follow for follow is pointless anyway. You gain nothing, it isn't a person who's interested in your content so it won't benefit either of you.. I really don't get the concept.

Couldn't agree more!

I follow and upvoted you !!!

Hey let's do f4f. I'll follow you and you follow me, ok ?
Jokes aside, new members probably fail to realise that this won't get them anywhere. Some realise it after they followed thousands of people and then they have to unfollow huge amounts. It's truly annoying but what can we do to prevent this ? Not much I think besides making posts like these. I guess the more people make a post about this topic, the less annoying follow beggers there will be :D

This is exactly right, blogs and comments are the only way to gain followers who actually vote.

One thing that some apps, like instagram do, is they disable the follow buttons once you've followed a certain number of people in a certain number of minutes. Spam detection I believe. Could potentially work here.

True! I'm new on steemit but so not new to platforms like this. And it's so annoying when you follow someone and they follow you back, only to find out you've been un-followed. For me follow me I follow you. Vote up and I vote back. We all gain that way, pass the love y'all!

Then a vote for a vote...

lol

My thought though!

I see no point in follow for follow. I would just have lots of useless blogs in my home tab and would hardly see those i am really interested in.

Yeah I feel the same.

even i found this concept of follow for follow useless it more time wasting !!
