Steemit Needs To Get Ready For Mass AdaptionsteemCreated with Sketch.

So, for anyone who has been around Steemit for at least a few days can see the potential in the platform and that it potentially can be bigger than youtube. But even-though Steemit is going mainstream sooner than it predicted, it needs to put its foot to the floor with some of these changes because it just takes 1 major youtuber to open Pandora's Box.

  1. User Traffic - Many services completely underestimate the amount of Traffic they they get the first couple of Months. @ned or any of the Steemit crew, what you are experiencing now is nothing. Mass adoption of this platform can happen overnight, and if you aren't ready, the website might be consistently down or very slow to load

  2. UI -See my article here detaining Features Steemit Should Have Click Here

  3. Account Creation - Although I talked about it in #2, this is really important to bring up. Steemit creators basically know that when they have accounts created and setup within mins of the request, the flood gates are open. From what I understand, they are trying to put down the framework before doing this. The problem is, if they wait to long, if it starts going main stream before they want it to, it will significantly turn off users

  4. Freedom of Speech vs Censorship - This is a big one. Ideally, people will go away from youtube and come to Steemit to have free speech, but there will come a time when groups that are considered "Hate Groups" post unflattering material. Steemit has to be prepared for this and how they will handle it (IE Sex Traffickers, Child Po.rn, Terrorist Groups, ext...). I'm not necessarily talking censorship, but what would they do if people posted that kind of stuff

  5. Transparency - From what I have been able to tell, the Steemit Staff has been open about what they have been doing with every change. But for each change, they have to find a way to notify content creators as even though they may post something, creators may not see it. The worst case would be that they pull a "Youtube" and alienate users

What do you think? Is there Items I missed? Let me know below.

I agree woth ypu fpr the most part on this mass adoption issue where they have to increase their server capacity to be able to have more users. But on the other hand, maybe that's not an issue. Just like Reddit, Steemit is only embedding videos and pictures from YouTube and other websites. They are not really keeping them anywhere which means that all that they need storage for is account info and text. And those things barely take up any space at all. I believe that other things like their UI and user friendliness are things that should be of higher priority. Or what do you think?

Nice post, really the price it is now even at over $2 is a steal. People will look back and think man if I had just bought loads then.

Steemit is a blogger community in it's own original kind first of all. It doesn't need to be "new youtube" or "new facebook" because it doesn't follow the same path. Mine guess is that this community is going to atract intellectuals, freedom speakers, creative people, artists and be some sort of modern day-online renaissance Florence where people gather to share ideas, spread ideas, learn from them. Steemit doesn't need a million users posting their own pictures or what are they eating now like Face and Insta users do. Steemit should be a social media treasure to keep from kinds of profanity we witness on many other social media. Youtubers have Youtube. Why Steemians can't have Steemit? You will simply have to choose or spam this website with linking. This is my opinion. As of nsfw content... well, reporting and moderators will need to go into action, like everywhere else. Forward Steemit!

Spot on

As for your point 4 : 'Freedom of Speech vs Censorship'

The point of the decentralized nature of STEEMIT is that no one tells anyone else what they can and can't do. No one is the censor and everyone is the censor.

By which I mean that if an article is supported by many members it will gain prominence and make money, if it's something the STEEMIT community doesn't particularly like..it'll (hopefully) sink like a stone.

You would hope so, but I'm thinking more of "Terrorist Groups" or child predators type of think. That's what worries me...

I still have more faith in humanity left than I've lost.
Hang in there :-)

Any illegal content, from what I understand, will not be permitted.
Everything else is pretty much fair game and the community will decide what they want to support.

That Actually Makes Sense and Helps. What Happens When They Do It?

Really Nice post

I am leaving Youtube just for that reason, censorship...

I have allways watched YouTube and now I must say I go on steem even moor now

We are still in the early adopter phase.

Being able to directly purchase steem / steem power with FIAT

that would be an interesting dynamic there too.

Leftists are heavily into censorship. Steemit has to get a handle on this crowd whom just can't resist their DNA to stifle dissent. It's vital for Steemit's growth.

As a card carrying "leftist" I disagree with you. I'm not interested in stifling dissent by any means. Pointing out that an argument is based on prejudiced logic is Not stifling. If someone has the freedom to make a prejudiced argument, then I certainly have the freedom to label that argument as such.

Yea, it's always the Righties who go around causing problems and acting like it's everyone else. It's been a problem with mankind for quite some time. No social network is going to stop that problem. What I'd like is to be able to block who can interact with me. I'm not a fan of reporting, or censorship either. I want people to be able to express what they want to express. But I also want to be able to choose who gets to read what I'm expressing, as I am not interested in talking to everyone. With blogs that I own, I'm able to decide who can comment on my website. Same deal with FB, and IG; even Twitter; (I wish they'd all remove their report buttons although I get wanting to protect the community from child porn and sex trafficking etc)

IF anything that's the only real change I'd like to see on this Platform @cryptowallet - as far as the left/right stuff; in truth there are Extremist on Both sides of the fence who always go too far with their desire to exhort control over others. It'd be silly to think that problem is partisan. Most problems in humanity, are non-partisan.

Wanting to tell other people what to do - is a human thing.

Great post @Cryptowallet - good discussion here -- hope you all have a great evening.

Good, consider yourself the silent minority in the world of liberalism.

I do, and will continue to consider myself exactly as I please.

I'm not say censor anything. I'm saying they need to be prepared when someone says something that could be against the law (child porn) and how they would respond as the media will spin the story

You've been watching waaaay too much Fox "News".

Censorship is garbage and seams like so old world and we dont need a world with censorship

Those are valid points you mention there. As much as I like to see Steemit expand, I hope it wont happen just yet. First they need to iron out some flaws, provide the capcities and improve the UI. A run on Steemit now would mean a missed opportunity, as many newbies would not accept having to live with imperfections for some time.
But I guess all this is also a matter of funding, like so often.

When this website starts getting serious traffic, hundreds of thousands or millions of views, it'll be interesting to see how well the infrastructure holds up. I agree with you that all of these are potential issues, but I'm optimistic that each one will work out with time.

It feels like ned and crew are focused on big picture stuff: Communities and Steem-powered Tokens being two crucial features

Well said, agree 100% Steemit is not a 30 minute app, it will scale ...

If / when Steemit is hugely successful and has millions of users joining up every month, many posting "ANTI-FAKE news", then it will be a major threat to the "Powers that be".
They will try any dirty trick to bring about the downfall of the platform. I would say be prepared for "False Flags". That means posting content, purporting to be from a terrorist , child porn producer, or other bad boy, and then simultaneously claiming to be a victim. A big Fake News attack would then follow, and in spite of the "nsfw" label, a concerted effort would be made to shut down the Steemit platform. If it could possibly be done ( i am no tech wizard ), maybe a stronger version of the "nsfw" tag can appear for these posts deemed by the "system" to be potentially harmful in this way. It would involve the post being tagged " nsfw - ++ ". Anybody wanting to view the content therein would have to click on a button to digitally sign a disclaimer containing a warning. The digital signature would be recorded, etc. This would add another layer of protection for the platform. If this is version is not technically suitable, it could be modified.

Excellent post!

Just curious what would you consider hate groups? Feminism? MRA? MGTOW? Nazis?

I updated the post with specifics. I'm trying to be as unbias as possible (which is impossible), but talking about the more extreme (and unlikely) scenarios

I Think we all know what hate groups are.

But because human beings are 'so intelligent', we like to argue our way out of things. We know which groups are spreading hate, or which groups have their 'extremists' in them that take a good idea and sprinkle hate in it. Unfortunately our intelligence as a species also drives hate groups to label their opposition as the 'real hate group' - classic comic book villain stuff that plays out in real life all the time. #MyFewCents

thanx for highlighting these concerns and possible solutions to go around it.

I agree. Steemit is going places!

Excellent post. It is important to think of all these potential hurdles before they need to be jumped. With the way the world works today, there will be a very brief moment in time that will determine if steemit shoots to the moon or crashes. If the developers are ready, which I have faith they will be, then it will take off.

I have seen this before with video games. If the initial launch is filled with bugs, people don't stick around for the first patch and the game can never quite recover. One difficulty here is that steemit as a whole does not get to pick the "release date". The day could come sooner than people think and we need to be ready when it does.

Thanks for the post.

Youtubers and ig'ers will make this hit the slope fast.

Great post!
Thanks for sharing & Steem on. :)

Yes! So true. But i dont think theyll Alienate us users.

I think what has attracted most of us is the censorship aspect of which big boys are practicing now. Plus, we don't make anything there anymore for having an opinion or even just reporting the news. I think crypto-currencies are here to stay & so is Steemit.

Thanks for sharing!

Good stuff! Yes steemit is bound to explode now and my only question is how bumpy the ride will be. Thanks for sharing your constructive criticism. I hope the devs see it if they havent seen or thought enough about this already, though im sure they are thinking about this.

Thanks for sharing. Steemit is steeming ahead - preparation iskey

Mass adoption very soon! I agree.

Thank you for sharing ❤❤

On the topic of account creation, do you know if the time has changed? It took my account less than 24 hours, my husband signed up the 22nd of May and still hasn't gotten the email to get started. He got the email to confirm that was his email, and the text message to his phone with the code he had to input when creating an account. I tried to email steemit support and haven't gotten a reply and I am not sure what else to do. We have tried recreating the account, but says the email is already used. Any tips from anyone would be great!! (He has checked his spam folder as well, no email at all)

The YouTube phenomena has peaked. The Google owned internet video platform is running off content creators right and left. Great opportunity for Steemit.

As someone who is studying social media and wants to go into a career in social media, it's exciting to join this platform with so much potential for growth. Although it's still in the early stages, Steemit has the potential for a tremendous boom to the masses.

  1. UI -See my article here detaining Features Steemit Should Have Click Here

Detaining ? ... Perhaps ... containing, entertaining, entailing, pertaining to ?

You have said all @cryptowallet,, i just upvoted

I think we need to make sure we can create a level playing field, that i believe, will be key to mass consumption. If it is just another case of the popular getting more popular and the gap widening from the peasants (me lol) then people may lose interest... But I don't know. I am new here and don't really understand what is going on hehe

One feature I think that Steemit is gonna have to expand on are the profiles or "blogs". While at the moment everything works fine, it'd be nice to see the steemit devs adding some form of integrated chat system fimilar to that of facebook's.

Heres a post I made about this idea if anyone is interested: https://steemit.com/steemit/@looking4llamas/steem-needs-a-private-messaging-feature-spread-the-word
