A few weeks ago I tried to sign up for a new account for my friend using his phone number and email address. A confimation email arrived, I clicked the link, and nothing!!!
The email said to wait a few (couple of?) days for the account to be verified, and I didn't receive an email.
Now I'm trying again, this time the new account option is saying that the phone number and email have already been used.
Any ideas of how to re-start or reset the account details? I can obviously make an umlimited amount of emails, phone numbers aren't so easy.
I also recommended another friend around a month ago and he has been unable to set up his own account, again he said he got the first email to confirm his email address then nothing (If it's relevant, he was using a different IP address from myself. )
Any tech help here would be appreciated, or anyone else with the same problems? It doesn't bode well for steem if new users can't sign up.
I just created my own account and this seemed to go without issues.. It took about a week before I received my confirmation e-mail.
By reading your post it seems the only thing you did is confirm the e-mail address after signing up, correct?
After a few days you should receive an e-mail with the subject "Your Steemit account has been approved". In this mail there's a link to continue setting up the account, after which you can start using Steemit.
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Thanks for the comment. I didn't get the second email even after a few weeks. That's the issue, and I now can't use the phone number or email address. Not sure if there was a problem with new acccounts.
