SUGGESTION TO STEEMIT INC: LETS HAVE A TIP BUTTON AFTER 7 DAYS POST PAY OUT PERIOD.

in steemit •  7 years ago

Have you ever come across a post on steemit that you would have liked to upvote but it was past payout time?

Lets consider this. Steemit is a great blogging platform. Before joining steemit I had tried  blogging on platforms such as blogger, hubpages and the likes, but I never was successful on those platforms. This is my personal opinion, steemit is newbie friendly, if one keeps posting quality content, its sure to earn something. The difference between steemit and those other platforms (personal blogs inclusive) is that one can get residual earnings  from post made as long as the site is in existence and the advertising accounts connected the site remains active.

On steemit, one has a 7 days window to earn for a post, infact I have noticed that a post rarely gets upvotes after  the first 3-4 days. That’s such a short period of time to earn on a post considering the amount of brainstorming and sometimes research put into coming up with a quality post, I guess a lot of steemians would agree with me on that point. This is where those other blogging platforms have an advantage over steemit and I believe steemit inc should fix this in time to come.

I recently came across a post by @flyingmind that I really would have liked to upvote but it was past payout period (am sure a lot of us have this experience too ) and it got me wondering why a post on steemit can’t get upvotes for as long as the steem blockchain exists, I might be wrong here but I think the reason would be because the reward pool wouldn’t be able to carter to it that way.

While pondering on this, it just came to mind that a tip button could fix this, receiving tips for post after the 7 days of upvote period is elapsed would help an author get residual earnings for every post made on steemit. The tip button can be programmed in such a way that when its clicked on it connects a user to his/her wallet transfer pop up and the authors username is automatically filled in with the memo being “ tip for (post url here)”, all the user now has to do is input the tip amount and send. That would be Cool right?

Someone might argue that this can be done manually, yes that’s right but this thought does not readily come to mind.we react mostly to what we see and research has shown that a “call to action” button increases the percentage of users taking a desired action on the internet so with the tip button conspicuously replacing the upvote button after 7days payout period a user is reminded that if the content is great he/her can still reward the author. this would encourage steemit authors to strive always to come up with great contents and also give users ( and would be users considering the fact that steemit is growing in leaps and bounds) that missed a valuable post during the upvote time frame the needed push and opportunity to contribute to a valuable post.

I would love to know your thoughts on this, please share in the comment section. Resteem if you think it’s a great idea so it gets to @ned and @steemit and @dan or whoever that need to see this to get it implemented and also so we have more opinions on this. I agree, I think this is a great idea. I often come across very interesting posts that I want to upvote but are past the 7 day mark. It would be great to be able to acknowledge older posts that I enjoy reading or even have some of my older posts make a little bit more money!

Wow I love this idea. I made a post last month which I think was undervalued and someone commented on it and sent a message that it was awesome but he couldn't upvote

Nice idea, but you can always look for the author's newer post and upvote :)
The not upvoting post that is 3 or 4 days old is just due to user's inability to see the post as it must've been buried in the avalanche of posts. I still upvote even 6 day-old posts.

you are right, what i meant though was that the upvotes drop after the first 3-4 days not that they are no upvotes anymore. and yes you can upvote the authors newer post but that new post might not have value to like the post that had passed payout.

Yeah, users are reluctant to upvote older posts. Everyone is looking for that fresh post to upvote:)
Keep steeming ✌️

I honestly don't understand why perpetual payout isn't an option, let alone the standard. I've seen this idea getting some mention -- and traction -- elsewhere, and do think those in charge need to pay attention.

If there are "technical reasons" why this can't be done I think the community should hear the explanation ... and surely the computer creatives among us could find a way to make it happen.

As I understand it, once-upon-a -time you had just 24 hours to get your post published, seen, publicized and rewarded before it fell on the garbage heap to rot for all eternity. Then they changed it to 7 days -- and it seems to me, if that could happen, perpetual payout is also an option. Or at least if 7 days is an option, why not 180 days?? (Something far more reasonable than 7 days. Srsly.)

This gives people the option to put links back to older articles that support their current work -- and still gain profit from things already done. It would be a tremendous benefit for so many I've seen in my cruising through the quality articles here.

I would like to see this issue addressed by those who have to power to make it happen -- or a reasonable explanation for why it can't. I also admit I am extremely new here, and don't mean to be speaking out of turn -- or on things where I have no standing. But as a newbie -- with hopes for my own seniority someday -- I am disturbed to see how those who do have seniority now see their work turned into basically compost after a week. If it had value on day 4, it likely has value much further down the line ... and the creator should be able to benefit from that.

There's already plenty of "fertilizer" on the platform (if you get my meaning. Somebody get a shovel!!) The genuine jewels should be treated as such. Those exist as well -- and we need more of them!

My 2c worth ... here on a Sunday morning. (More than twice what my UV's worth, sadly.)

exactly my point.it would be indeed great to have an explanation to why a post can't earn for its lifetime. i hope someone in the know does that soon.

That's a great idea ;)
Thx for sharing & keep up the good work!
I follow, upvoted & resteemed tight away...
