Global Tigers Day: Good News this year

in steemit •  8 years ago  (edited)

Global Tigers Day, which is celebrated to raise awareness on tiger conservation is on 29th of July, which is today.  The goal of celebrating this particular day is to promote a system wherein the natural habitats of tigers will be protected, thereby protecting the endangered species from extinction.

Why Tigers are no important?

Tigers are the largest members of the cat family and are renowned for their power and strength. They are now endangered. There are only total of  3890 tigers in the world. This is the time to take an action to prevent this and live in harmony with nature.

The tiger is a unique animal which plays a pivotal role in the health and diversity of an ecosystem. It is a top predator which is at the apex of the food chain and keeps the population of wild ungulates in check, thereby maintaining the balance between prey herbivores and the vegetation upon which they feed.

Therefore, the presence of tigers in the forest is an indicator of the well being of the ecosystem. The extinction of this top predator is an indication that its ecosystem is not sufficiently protected, and neither would it exist for long thereafter. If the tigers go extinct, the entire system would collapse.

Good News is that,  Wild #tiger numbers have increased globally for the first time but there is still a long way to go.

For the first time after decades of constant decline, tiger numbers are on the rise. This offers us great hope and shows that we can save species and their habitats when governments, local communities and conservationists work together.” said Marco Lambertini, Director General of WWF International.

I got some interesting things while doing my research on it.

Watching cat videos on YouTube can help save wild tigers from extinction.

We all watch cat videos on Youtube and spend lot of time on watching these cuties.  Well you could simultaneously be saving the lives of wild tigers, simply by watching those clips on a new YouTube channel.

Leonardo DiCaprio:

"The Revenant" star is an avid lover of all animals, and regularly contributes making the planet a safe haven for them. Don't forget that he talked about Climate Change while receiving his oscar award.

The actor's Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation gave $3 million to the World Wildlife Fund on the third anniversary of the Global Tiger Summit, so as to help Nepal double its tiger population by 2022.

Let's help tigers and again live in harmony with nature. Because we don't have any rights to kill tigers and turn them into our wine drinks.
