The difference is that Facebook has billions of users and reddit has millions upon millions - both literally also have an army of employees. steemit is still in beta.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for steemit, but I'm not so sure it's they who have to do X or Y in order to compete and stay relevant, if they start offering something similar.
