Can Steemit help with the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico?

in steemit •  7 years ago

It's really bad there, still

The latest is that Tribute Contracting LLC was awarded $156 million by FEMA to deliver thirty million meals to Puerto Ricans devastated by Hurricane Maria, and by the time 18.5 million meals were due, only 50,000 had been delivered.

Can Steemit help? How?

99.73% short. Astounding.

Just a hair short of the target, right?

I have family from Puerto Rico. It took years for Puerto Rico to fix the electrical infrastructure damage from past hurricanes. At least, we are seeing some of this dysfunction. It's disappointing that most media outlets aren't covering the plight of our fellow citizens, in Puerto Rico.
Could this be the test case for SMT fundraiser? Do we ask an organizations that we want to help to have a steem account, or do form an intermediary organization that handles exchange of the smt to relief organization? Another possibility is form a steem funded relief/aid organization; I don't really like this idea; there already a lot of relief organizations.
I could see blockchain technology helping to ensure delivery of contracted items to the people, but I don't think the technology would make the delivery more efficient though.

I'm sorry to hear that, but thanks for the thoughtful comment.

Is it true that some people want to build a crypto-city on puerto rico?

Yes, they are calling it Puertopia... A couple of crypto guys like Brock Pierce are trying to establish new projects in PR to support crypto and blockchain initiatives under the beneficial tax regime there.

I read about this today as well. Very sad and disappointing! I live in the beautiful PR island for over 20 years and I cannot believe the stories I have heard since the storms. The amount of people who have left and not returned are staggering.

thanks for this video! I really appreciate you doing something about this. I been trying to help folks and my family in PR with this disaster but, its very hard to do as you. I believe this can actually helps folks in PR for those who have electricity at the moment and internet connection. There is still a lot of folks unemployed and I believe this platform can help a lot of folks over there into making something that will get the help over there or folks like me be able to help em. I been sending supplies as much as I can but, I can't all the time.

hopefully steemit can overcome her and help her. community of nanggroe steemit comunity (nsc) in aceh has helped many disaster victims in aceh. thank you

The basic truth is yes!

Freaking crazy. What a scam. The PR people need help and got Trumped instead

Yes, but somebody has to take an initiative and set up a team for this purpose.
