Hello everyone! Hope everyone is doing well. I just thought I tell you about the issues I have been having during the last couple of days on steemit with the Bandwidth.
I have been on steemit for a few months now and I just am finding out about the whole "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded" issue after posting comments and votes to a small handful of people that I have the daily plan for as of late.
Maybe is because I was not really as active on steemit in the first few months of me having this account as I do now. But for a little while, I did not understood exactly why I am receiving this message when I have not posted too much and still have STEEM POWER active in my wallet Tab.
So I had to ask around and research exactly what could be the issue with this... I have noticed many of them only says "Just wait for a lil while to let it recharge." --> That can sometimes take hours.... the first time it happened, it recovered quickly, but as days passes by of me getting this bandwidth message again, it is taking longer to come back.
They also suggested just to give some Steem Dollars to a person randomly and then you should recover all your bandwidth... that did NOT work! Not sure if actually buying more steem will work if you are over 100-300% in the negative, so please clarify that to me if you know better than I do there xD.
At that moment, I could not even Follow, post, vote or even claim my steem power/dollars that I earned either... I was freaking out not knowing whats going on!
I was asking myself... "Is this a glitch?" , "am I being censored or banned from posting on steemit for a while?"
Then when I was asking the Steemit Facebook Community about this, one user called @hilarski told me that I can monitor my steemit bandwidth using a website called: https://steemd.com/@denoxblogger
To check your bandwidth, just type:
https://steemd.com/@yourusername <--- Insert your Steemit Username here.
This is what I found out, please note that the screenshot you see in front of you is the bandwidth I have now as I post this:
When I checked that day, my Bandwidth Remaining was at under -100% and I was like... "Now wonder why I cannot do nothing now." so I decided to wait it out for an hour or so to see if my bandwidth can go back in the positives...
And GUESS WHAT! I refreshed every 10-15 minutes, at first it went up to -43%, then back down to -123% and for the next 4-5 hours, it was going up and down continuously... staying in that negative number even tho I did not do anything on steemit...
This is something that he did not mentioned to me. While its true that you need to wait for a few hours for it to recover, but I have noticed that during the morning to afternoon hours, the KB of bandwidth I have was between 40-50KB only and during that time, I was in the negative even though I barely posted anything. Maybe a couple of comments and replies on other posts or my own.... then got negative bandwidth.
But later on in the evening, suddenly I have pretty high positive bandwidth and much higher KB of bandwidth! Remember the last screenshot of my bandwidth, it was 219KB? Look at this now:
And this is after posting like 8-10 comments and replies consistently.... still gaining more bandwidth now and can post a lot now, from 219KB, now I have 388KB! I wonder why?
My theory is that I have been hearing that during the daytime in USA/Puerto Rico (Pacific Eastern Time), the traffic is a lot higher and most likely the bandwidth limit has been cut for everyone online to be split equally... or perhaps with the busy traffic, it consumes a lot more bandwidth to post one thing during the day or at night.
Depending on what time zones you guys are in, observe when is the best time for you to post by checking your steemd page at different times of the day, especially if you have low steem power like mines or still starting out. Monitor your bandwidth consumption everytime you post and vote.
Voting Power which is the blue bar indicates the amount you have remaining to upvote. If you have 100%, you can upvote someone with 100% about 10 times a day, afterwards, as the percentage lowers, so will the voting power to give someone a certain amount of steem cash.
As for Bandwidth Remaining, everytime you post a blog, comment someone, follow or even redeem steem power/dollar, it consumes a certain percentage of bandwidth. I believe resteeming actually is one of the most bandwidth consuming actions you can do so be careful how often you do it.
So these are what I found out about the bandwidth issue and how to be aware of it. If you are ever in the deep negative numbers, you have two options:
1.) Wait a few hours till your steem bandwidth recovers, depending on the traffic and KB bandwidth you have, the longer you may have to wait.
OR
2.) Buy more steem using cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, etc. in order to gain more steem power.
As far as I know, its about $50 worth of Litecoin to but at least 10 Steem Power. So you do the math depending on how much steem power you want to buy.
THE MORE STEEM POWER YOU HAVE, THE MORE BANDWIDTH YOU WILL RECEIVE! :)
I hope this helps many newbies or other users here that were unaware of this issue being around for a while like me raise awareness of what to do to monitor your bandwidth and know when to expect the issue and avoid it if possible.
If anyone else has more information on this issue, please let me know so I can add it afterwards and credit you! Find this post very useful, please upvote since it helps a lot continue posting contents like this to you all. Comment your thoughts or experience on this issue, would like to know. Follow me for more posts like this in the future and resteem it to raise awareness! :)
Bandwidth limit eh? Heh sounds a bunch like some of the stuff mentioned when it came to net neutrality stuff going on. Anyway I had no idea about that ah that sorta sucks I will give things the benefit of the doubt though as steemit is still in beta mode currently maybe later it will change. I have never personally encountered this issue yet myself and I feel like I post a decent amount each time I come here maybe I just got lucky? I dunno.

A bandwidth limit on social media? This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of in my life. It seems very greedy they would do this considering all the money this platform earns from constantly selling off its currency.

I believe they are doing bandwidth limit on everyone because they want to "prevent spam" on the website and the transaction coming in and out may take a bit of time to process, those are my guess of course.

That's a very illogical approach to dealing with spam. No doubt, this platform is full of spammers too. This is the first social platform I've ever seen in my life that willingly allows spammers to parade all over it.

I'm experiencing the same issues as you denoxblogger, it's very annoying.
I also wrote an article about this with a few solutions that help to resolve this problem, feel free to check it out :-)
