People who give comments but no upvotes 🤔

For the past month or so, I have been reasonably consistent with my blog posts.

As you know, it takes time and effort to be consistent here. But with the right focus, it can be very rewarding both personally and financially.

In a very short time, I have already been to my first Steemit meetup in Hanoi, made lots of new friends and generated a decent income.

I love most of the community here. The ones that are being themselves, contributing and giving to others shine through all the greed.

Who can answer this?

Why do people on Steemit comment on your post, then not even upvote you? It makes no sense to me.

Typically their comments are generic and possibly bots, adding no value to the post. However, some expect a follow and upvote.

I will always upvote someone's comment if they upvote my post. I believe it's the least I can do. I have voting power, so why be greedy!!! This is what Steemit is all about.

It's not just about posting. It's also about engaging with the people who follow you, and the people that you follow and sharing the upvotes.

The way I do it

I do my best to find, comment and upvote content I enjoy. If It's not to my interest, I will save my upvote for something I do like.

I usually find them on my busy.org feed. This is easier for scrolling through the latest posts. It's nice and clean with an easy to use interface.

Signing up to busy.org gives you a sexy interface to use for Steemit, and if you post from there, you will receive an upvote from them. Just tag #busy when posting.

When commenting on someone's post, I try to at least reference the posts content. This shows the author I read it!

It's not rocket science

Give more, and you will get more from Steemit.

To everyone that has followed me, commented and upvoted on my posts, thank you!

You keep me motivated knowing you are enjoying my content.

Keep it real
Derek

I was just talking about this in another posts the other day I am going to screen shot my comment.

I just had to share this - I was being a little asinine but this is an issue for sure...along with the other issues mentioned.

I doesn’t matter what you’ve vote it worth. It’s about giving what you have to give. If you choose not to give it- your invalidated In your praising comments by your lack of vote.

Thanks for sharing, very useful and well articulated! You are right about vote value, it's the fact you are giving what you have.

Your absolutely right. My vote isn’t worth much yet but it’s the vote that I have to give. If I choose to hold onto it- I’m not using it for the purpose it was intended to be used.

I have found this annoying as well, but then the other day i kept running out of bandwidth and so my comment might go through, but the upvote didnt or vice versa. So i guess there are sometimes good reasons for it.

If its at least a good comment, then maybe the lack of upvote isnt so bad.

Ah yeah, I know what you mean about the bandwidth, it can sometimes have and effect. You are right, if there is thought in the comment it's different. But typically someone who goes to the effort to leave a well aticulated reply normally upvotes out of courtesy.

I do agree but honestly most of the spammers are some poor blokes gaining fractions of cents from their comments, and they havent understood the system because they would at least get some curation rewards if they would upvote. But Id rather call out the big whales that upvote themselves and their friends only; pulling out thousands of Dollars out of the system instead of spreading and actually rewarding good content. So the rest of us has to divide the scraps amongst us. Not really a fair system rather a mirror to how the society is structured in the real world.

You are right, many don't fully understand the platform. However, they could make an effort to learn. It just seems a no-brainer to upvote the post though. Especially if you go to the trouble of commenting.

Some of these big whales are very greedy. I see many other whales downvoting them which does help. We will see how things go over time. There are many things that happen on Steemit that aren't ideal, but at least it is giving creators an income. The trash will disappear in time as Steemit evolves.

Well said @derekcowan.
Upvoted :)

I'm just happy to get comments. I upvote almost every comment that isn't completely generic. I rarely have the energy to check if they've upvoted. What kills me is when they say "voted and followed. follow me plz" and they don't upvote or follow. That's when I start flagging and digging into people's histories and reporting them to steemcleaners.

Don't try lying on the blockchain. That shit'll catch up quick!

That's what is frustrating though. We only have so much voting power we can give daily, so that's why I check. I want to reward the true followers and honest Steemians out there.

Yeah, the blockchain is a beautiful thing!

Some people will get it and others won't.
You gotta be like a duck and appreciate the breadcrumbs.

You have been on this platform longer than us, so currently it is not annoying us. Yet, we can imagine a few months down the line that these comments aren't productive and the frustration of not receiving an upvote builds on it.
We've notice that you have been doing very well with your latest posts receiving the deserved credit. Any secrets? Hahaha

I've only really been consistent this past month. I just feel as my account grows, I want to be able to share my upvote with people who genuinely care about my post and Steemit. So that's why I think it's important to add value. I must say, you probably add the most value to any of my posts. There is time and thought put into your replies and off course your own posts.

No Secrets, I invested some money into my account, so I bought some steem power and SBD which I use to boost my posts. It seems to be working together with engaging as much as possible with the people I follow.

Yes, well, we feel if we are hooked to the content and we feel like we have a say then we will engage. Hopefully, for us, consistence will be the key too. Sam put in $100 into STEEM after a week on here, but we shall look at investing more in the future to help boost our posts.
Thanks for the compliment and advice. And as always we shall look out for your posts :)

I actually had a longer reply, but it didn't post haha. I normally draft the longer ones the paste them over. It just took my first two paragraphs. Nevermind, wasn't meant to be obviously haha.

I'm new in this site and that means I'm just a plankton figuring out how steemit works. From what I understand, plankton levels do not have much weight on their voting power compared to minnows that have spent months on the site.

When I began my steemit journey, I frequently upvoted more than commenting on content I deemed good enough. I realized the concept of bandwidth and how it affects lower tier users. Commenting and upvoting takes up bandwidth and with what little planktons have, we have to use our share sparingly.

Planktons supporting other planktons usually either upvotes a post or comments. Both methods hold little weight on the reward the author provides. So we are basically still invisible.

A single minnow can upstage several planktons on a single 100% power vote and that's a reality I have come to accept.

Thanks for your comment. I understand it is difficult at first. But it gets easier quicker than you may think. We all have to learn, this platform is not exactly the easiest at times to get to grips with.

Your vote is valuable because you are giving all you have. Most people with a brain will appreciate that. I do.

All the best with Steemit, keep posting :)

I think you have it right there!

I was just thinking about this when I woke up this morning (sure sign of a new addiction :/. I try to upvote everyone that upvotes my posts and comments, even when the comments border on spammy.

I was just talking about that with my wife :-) Thank you for sharing with us.
BTW you have great posts we are going to read some of them.
Keep posting and see you soon in next posts :-)

Wow ! extraordinary photography
Beautiful pictures thank you..Greets
as a photographer i can say this is very good work!

I love the irony that besides the bot, the first comment left— courtesy of @shishoristi—is literally what @derekcowan’s post is about.

Keep up the good “photography”

I know right! I actually wrote a reply to this guy stating the irony. It didn't post. I like yours better though haha.
