Steemit Success: Go Mainstream!

It has been almost a year now, not that Steemit anniversary matters to any of you. But for me, almost 12 months of writing every day and earning a little bit. But overall, I'm quite happy as Steemit has been really life-changing. You all know that Steemit is helping me fund my business. I'm stuck at rep 64 while my other Steemit batchmates who started at the same time are almost level 70 now. Honestly, I am not competing in terms of reputation score as my only Steemit goal is to become a whale. I guess I only want to surpass them in terms of Steem Power, ha! But it is not going to happen to me just by writing because I am not the popular type. Hopefully, when I get to earn millions (dreaming) from my business, I will be able to massively power up my account so I can travel the world again and help those who are unpopular and struggling to earn in this community.

Unfortunately, I don't write mainstream topics so I cannot please the whales and the Steemit masses. Unless you crave fame or blogger popularity, there's no other way to be heard or become successful here but to pump up your account big time.

It is possible to become popular and one can surely earn more Steem that way. But I just can't for some reasons I enumerated below. But for those who want to become famous Steemit bloggers and attract the attention of whales and high rep Steemit personalities, here are some of the things you need to do in order to become seriously successful here on Steemit.

1. Talent is not everything

I've seen a few unique writers here who don't make it to the trending page or who don't even earn that much, simply because they are good and talented. They are just not for everyone. Don't appear better than everyone else because people hate that, so keep your talent. Bad food make it to the supermarket aisles. Bad musicians are famous. Bad products sell. So if you are a talented writer or artist, understand that your stories, articles, music, and essays are only reserved for those who have good taste.

2. Write mainstream topics

Write things that people will buy or anything that will distract and take them away from the reality. Don't write about how depressing your life is. The feel-good positivity and money-making articles are so popular as people like to see signs of hope and feel good about themselves. This is one way to get the attention of whales and high rep Steemians.

3. Glorify your life

Travel bloggers are so popular because they touch the fantasies of the masses. People want something they can't have and reading the travel blogs and lifestyle porn momentarily take them away from the humdrum and the mundane. Write only about the good things that happened to you and keep the bad ones behind the scenes. Impress the readers with your life's perfection. They will surely feel inspired and help you become popular in return.

4. Don't rant

There's one thing people really hate here on Steemit, negativity. Especially those who rant about why some people get ahead and why they don't make that much. Pretend that you are fine with what is going on. Write positive things about Steemit because this will give people the assurance. Never rant about the Steemit income inequality because it is such a big turnoff. People will call you jealous or whiny, and they might even unfollow you. Always be positive and you'll surely be popular. Don't be yourself. Wear a mask.

5. Indicate your location on your profile

People are tribalistic in nature. I noticed that people usually like to support their own tribemates first. Though I am fortunate to get followers and supporters from all over the world, I've seen Steemians from unpopular continents who don't get upvotes or even comments other than from their own tribe. Most people here on Steemit are not travelers and are usually not comfortable interacting with people outside their comfort zone or preconceived stereotypes. Worse if you are not an English speaker, they get this auto red alert in their narrow minds. So make sure to add your location tag so you can get some support from your own community. At least you can be popular within your group.

6. The more brownie points you get, the more chances of winning

It is easy to get brownie points here on Steemit. Just keep on commenting on whales and high rep Steemians' posts. Even if you don't really like what they write, just leave some positive comments. It is not begging, it's called engagement. Forget about pride and sophistication. When you are starting small, you got to kiss ass. If you have nothing and are nothing, then that's the only way to go up. Remember that they will not come to you.

7. Don't write about sensitive or social topics

People don't care about your suffering and struggle in the society. Being poor and miserable is not attractive. Writing about the harsh realities of the world and other social issues will not attract upvotes from whales who are living their all-too-comfortable lives. Write things that only inspire people to become rich or how you have easily gotten your cryptocurrency wealth. This is one surefire way to become popular.

8. Upload original pictures, selfies or videos

People like to know the physical appearance of who they are supporting. They also would like to have an idea where you are from so they can easily box you into their labels and stereotypes. If you are within their comfort zone/tribe, they will likely support you. Cute blogger boys and girls usually become popular. If you can't write, at least show your cleavage or abs in your pictures or videos. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Serendipitous to read this right now as I am reconsidering my approach to Steemit right now. Your list is spot-on as far as I can tell, for a majority of the platform at least. I too have been looking over a number of Steemians to see basically what their approach is and what their reach is and the upbeat non-ranty travel sexhibitionism is much beloved.

Unfortunately, none of that is really me :P I am interested in retooling my approach to achieve maximum reach per post and a find a format with which I can generate more followers and create more content in less time that is geared towards making a positive difference in the world. Money not a serious goal, though I see it has to be a consideration to get real traction here. We'll see if I can manage that. I have the feeling my writing is dense, serious and too laden with reference notes, i.e. too academic :P We'll see if I can mix it up and take some tips from your contribution here!

Ok, I can probably wait for #8 to see if you have really taken some of my Steemit success tips lol.

Hmmmm... don't want to scare my audience away.... :P

Thanks for the Steem education. I have to pull an all nighter tonight. Looking for some lifestyle porn to stimulate me, dang my humdrum life!

I know you know that this is meant to be satire lol.

What’s real sad is I had to lookup satire to respond. I learned a new word this morning.

Fully agree with everything except one thing. People like ranting.
My blog most successful posts are the ones where I discuss about issues, not the one where I just display my art or show what was my last sandwich.

I agree with your tips and I have no doubt they do work along with being consistent but is it sending people the right message?

I was actually having this same conversation with another Steemian the other day. The point of steemit in my mind was supposed to be an indepenedant marketplace of ideas but it’s leaning towards self censorship because of a bias towards certain types of content being rewarded over others and while this is great for weeding out quality from the quantity it’s not good for people who want to go against conventional thought and want to challenge ideas!

I guess eventually when more people become whales their can’t be a set of them who support arguements from a counter narrative or so I’m hoping. It’s sad when people’s voices are shut down because they’re forced to conform, we have enough of that in the world

Also what’s your business about? That’s very exciting I remember when I started mine I was so nervous and anxious and now I’m moving into my 3rd year and I can’t see how I lived any other way

I agree with your tips and I have no doubt they do work along with being consistent but is it sending people the right message?

I'm glad you agree with my tips, lol.

It is sad but true. You have seen my stuff so you know that I write in niche tags and it is rare that I ever get seen by someone with a giant account.

I suppose it comes down to what people are looking to get out of this site. I like your blog because I believe that you believe what you are saying and that is rare on any platform. I try to do the same with mine (except during my first weeks on this site, I was super guilty of some of this stuff lol). In the long run though, we may not be able to make as much money but we will have earned what we make (or that's what I tell myself lol).

I meant this to be sarcastic but I see people here thanking me for the tips, lol. If only they've read clearly or I made myself clear.

But yes, sad but true huh!

Haha You were clear but a lot of people seem to be bad at sarcasm lol. At least they aren't saying the exact opposite of what you wrote while they think they are agreeing with you. One time I wrote about legalizing drugs and I got a comment that said "so true, drugs ruin so many lives" which tells me that they saw that the title had the word "drugs" in it and guessed what the post was about.

One time I wrote about legalizing drugs and I got a comment that said "so true, drugs ruin so many lives"

Haha just so they have something to say!

People who have been following and reading my posts for a while now usually get what I'm saying lol.

Yeah I check my upvotes and I try to read all my comments so I can see who comes around all the time and who is new so if someone says something silly it's okay. Every now and then I get those spammers that try to trick you into upvoting them by saying "great post" or "nice picture" but then you go to their blog and every comment is "great post" and "nice picture". I don't flag them but I know their game lol.

While we are on the topic thanks for liking my work. I don't know if I ever said that but do I notice you on most of my posts and I really appreciate it.

I think I found your posts in the philosophy tag or something while I tried to look for more people to upvote. But I didn't find a lot lol.

No worries!

Haha Well I am honored lol. I try to look around tags sometimes and it can be hard to find good stuff. It took me forever to figure out that the psychedelic content that I make is more common in the psychedelics tag and not in psychedelic (for the most part). I found someone decent creators just clicking around a few times though but I think I find more in comments still.

This post is hilariously truthful. People like @alexbeyman manage to upload quality content and seem to be killing it, but he's not the norm.

I've stopped commenting so much on popular posts because I honestly don't care, but it is totally true that the easiest way to get popular is to ass-kiss even if you don't particularly like the content.

I don't enjoy joining clubs, Discord groups, competitions, or challenges. Just not my thing. I don't think they actually benefit people that much. But the people that host that stuff end up being rather popular.

I don't enjoy joining clubs, Discord groups, competitions, or challenges. Just not my thing.

Neither do I. Although people put a lof effort joining those groups and building their network, I'm just too lazy for that. I'd rather spend time writing more.

I've seen time and time again that the people that are the most involved in local writing communities and organization are generally not the most skilled writers.

You suggested 8 valid points for the success in steemit. Beside all these points you need good luck. @diabolika

True that!

Great tips, love the swashes of sarcasm.

I agree with you. I am not really trying to appeal to the masses. While, like everyone else, I'd love to have big scores on my posts, for the most part, I just write and post what I find of interest. Selfish perhaps. Real, certainly.

And I really don't try to appeal to whales. I do appreciate that several of my friends here hold significant power (you included), but I stick around only because I appreciate their (your) content.

With that said, I'll see you at the top!

Great tips, love the swashes of sarcasm.

Thanks, I really love those who can detect sarcasm in my post by now!

I think steemit is not a place for us to be who we are. Being yourself sometimes in steemit will be considered weird and you might get flag :). The term "Glorify" as you write it is very appropriate to explain the contents in steemit. Sharp and harsh criticism will be considered negative here. But you're good enough to get to reputation 60 ;)

Hahaha that happens!

But you're good enough to get to reputation 60 ;)

Awww thanks!

A pretty good critique of Steemit, and social media in general. Big props on how consistent you've been. I started not long after you but have been too up and down. 64 is a long way up from where I'm standing.

What's important is that you're still here contributing!

That's why I am not popular. XD

😊

You should prune your supporters, too.
Apparantly we have been scrutinized and found lacking.
Im sure my support of you keeps you from getting votes to block me getting curation.
Id appreciate a heads up if this has been expressed to you as it has others.

Welkome to rock and roll high skool, you are at the loser's table.
You are welcome here.

Welkome to rock and roll high skool, you are at the loser's table.
You are welcome here.

Who are you to tell me things?

No more, nor any less, than an individual.
Forgive us if we are too welcoming, the jocks and socials are over there.

Who are you tell that people are losers or what they should do in life? Do we know you personally? So far it has been nothing but annoying.

So I will appreciate it if you can leave me alone.

Sure thing, doll.

Good Riddance!

No need to hate,...

Succes and still mainstream@diabolika

Oh my God this is so good. You really hit the nail on the head. We've been talking so much in my house about how what is good is not popular. And yes, make some cheap content and look good. Boom. And do the youtube voice. Gotta have the Youtube voice. Not complete without the Youtube voice. But girl, you're popular! Look at all these comments on all your posts! I mentioned you in my post, and both of the comments are saying how great you are.

Hey. Keep it up! I too possess unpopular opinions but such opinions should not be overlooked.

It's easy to compromise and focus on mass appeal as so many do but there is something special about having a message that, even if it is novel, we stick to it.

We that believe in #nobidbot are a special breed indeed. I think a common thread of our ethos is we believe in people over money. The value of ones message should not be determined by the depth of their pockets.

Thank you for being the type that you are. We need more like you.
