100% Upvotes for all

in steemit •  7 years ago

Ever since I joined Steemit back in April 2017 I've always voted at 100% I've always felt I should spread the love as much as possible and as unconditionally as possible as a way of paying back all those who supported me when I first started and still continue to support me to this day. I suppose I could be accused of voting tactically; originally I only voted on "What I liked" which lead to some of my mentors saying "You're not voting enough Pete, you're not curating enough either!" Given I was voting at 100% I didn't want to blindly vote any old thing for the sake of it.

When I first joined Steemit like most people I wanted to start earning fast! So I joined such groups as @minnowsupport and also paid for @randowhale's service both of which helped boost my earnings as well as increased my followers by getting my material under fellow members eyes. With that in mind, back in November, I joined @shadowbot which is a bot that automates such things as upvoting the best content and automagically following back users that follow you. Now there are two schools of thought on these Upvoting bots. A lot of people think they're evil and people only use them to upvote their own stuff. The flip side of that is sometimes you don't have enough time to check out every post your mate does especially if, as some are doing, they churn out 10 or more posts per day. The only downside is bots are actually as dumb as my left big toe; they will continue to upvote the Steemian you have told it to vote for even if they have suddenly started churning out utter garbage. Like most technologies, it all depends on how it's used.

Now I know very little about Steemit and even less about blockchain cryptocurrency voodoo. So with that in mind, I've started watching the likes of @jerrybanfield on Youtube. To go off on a tangent for a minute, Jerry can be a bit dry and his stuff can become out of date very quickly however that's not his fault to be fair, the technology moves forward very fast and also some people start out really well offering great services and for some reason fall by the wayside. Back to the subject: So I watched one of jerry's video's titled Earn Steem for finding an undervalued Steemit Post and submitting to Curie! (What a mouthful) and he talked about Steemian, don't bother with @currie you can't submit posts anymore apparently. Streemian, effectively, is another bot. Now I really like Streemian to be honest, I've added a select band of reprobates to my Fanbase and originally set my Upvote to 100%

Yesterday my mate @steevc said "You're doing a lot of voting?" And he was right, more to the point the bots were doing a lot of voting. I had a quick look and saw my voting power was down to 60.8% and my efficiency was a rubbish 30% sadly I have decided to pull back a bit and drop my voting levels. On average most will receive around 30% Upvote with a select few still benefiting from 100% upvote. in a few weeks time, I hope to be back to upvoting everyone 100% once my account is in better shape.

Edit: My streemian account has been playing up this morning with nginx 500 error messages. I was finally able to bring the site up and was greeted by this.

I read that to mean the site and service are on its way out? :-(
What was I saying about Jerry Banfield's stuff being out of date?

Historically I upvoted 100% for everything but am trying to take a little more care now. I've never really looked into the automation of voting; I have little interest in doing so.

I'm very aware that I've possibly been posting a little too much recently and should search and read for more items that interest me.

Thats a great sentiment. I've adopted the always vote at 100% mentality as well. And I hope to maintain that mentality as my worth grows. I've thought about doing the automated upvote bot, but I was worried that I may end up upvoting too enough and thus decreasing my worth. But I may try it in the future. As I do find it difficult to keep up with giving support back to those that have supported me in the past. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I make no apology for Auto-Voting people I like. You'll see a lot of posts talking about Circle Jerks or complaints along the lines of "They only vote for their friends!" On the whole, from what I've seen, those accusations are made by people who feel that people should reciprocate upvote and follow simply because they have, regardless of how engaging they are or the quality of their work.

It's not rocket science, follow my work if you like some of it, make an effort to reply to posts on a regular basis, have some dialogue and we'll become friends. And I look after my friends.

At the moment a resteem is worth far more to me than an upvote. It's all about ripples in ponds, the more ripples with my name on the wider my circle of [followers] friends.

I see a full blown steemit tutorial in your future :)

Have a 100% vote from me. I've turned off Streemian for now as I'll try to do more manual votes. I've still not worked out the optimal method
