In a blog post recently published on their blog, Coinhive announced they will stop operations starting March 8.
This is big. Let me tell you why.
Coinhive was by far the largest browser mining player, with their hidden (and more often than not, not ethically used) script spreading across more than 70% of the browser mining market. Among the reasons cited on the blog for the cease of operations: the upcoming modifications of the Monero algorithm, the crypto-winter, which depreciated the token with more than 85% and, overall, the lack of viability from an economical point of view.
While, from an entrepreneurial perspective, I regret this, because I know from experience how difficult is to walk away from a project in which you invested time and energy, from a higher, market related perspective, I see it as a very positive development.
Coinhive was transparent, but their users not so much. Because of that, browser mining got a really bad name, and that extended onto honest startups which were trying to enter this market in a transparent, ethical way. I personally had my share of "bad press" here on Steemit for promoting a browser mining project, called JSECoin.
And with that, let's segway into JSECoin, because that's how I found out, to be honest, about Coinhive.
JSECoin published another blog post, about this whole story, in which they are inviting Coinhive users to switch to their platform. For starters: it's a completely transparent platform, fully Opt-In, meaning users know at any moment that they are supporting a site by browser mining and can opt out, if they want. On top of that, JSECoin comes with merchant tools available and a functional advertising marketplace.
That's what I call "jumping on the opportunity".
Disclaimer: I support JSECoin since its very early days, and I hold some JSETokens.

I know the feeling. That's why I created steem.supply, an easy to use and accurate tool for calculating your Steemit rewards |
I've been mining at night because unfortunately I can't mine at work on my phone as its blocked on the wifi.
If I start my own blog I'm definitely setting up JSE on my website.

Nice earnings. Yes, I know the project since its inception and I even had, like I wrote, some ins and outs with some people on Steemit because I "dared" to install a transparent mining script on one of the sites I own (steem.supply). I remember being accused of 'stealing" people CPU :)) Fun times.

This is really great news for jsecoin because I see coin give as a big treat and competitor to jsecoin. But now that they are gone I Forseen a massive growth on jsecoin because more users will now switch into their platform .

I actually don't like when websites mine Bitcoin using my PC, If I want my computer to be used for mining, I'll do it myself... I tired Cryptotab for a while but I thought it wasn't worth it.
