First I would like to thank the code wizards behind Steemit for listening to one of the feature request I mentioned in a post I made before about the PAYOUT portion not going totally zero. You may have noticed that little but wonderful adjustment made nonetheless.
Now, I would like to say that, as our posts list grow long, and varied, it is rather becoming hard to keep up with the "newest/latest" replies, our posts and comments get, do you agree??
We should all value people who took the time to respond, because responding is a part of good manner. So our responder have already showed their appreciation and good manner towards us, who posted first. Imagine the effect if we fail to reply back?? Just because we did not notice. Not because we are rude, racists or bigots(thats another story) but because of the mere reason that we did not have the time to scroll again and again thru the list of RECENT REPLIES looking IF THERE'S ANY.
How can we effectively solve this minor yet critical issue?
I suggest that the code wizards of Steemit, wave their wands again.
Create a small icon for Steemit users to notify them whenever a NEW REPLY has been done on one of our POSTS/COMMENTS. Giving everyone a 2 click access to the particular post. Thus everyone will be taken cared of and not feel IGNORED. Do you agree?
I think we will all be more productive that way. More posts, more replies, more rewarding will Steemit will be. Even if only emotionally. :D

P.S. Should there be rewards for effective suggestions too?? :P
Real time notifications would be good!
I think if Steemit does not implement it, someone else might. There is already steemle and steemd and steemdollar websites, so maybe someone will do notifications. I've had experience with making notification apps for social networks so maybe I'll do it! Kinda busy but who know! Great idea!

The steem blockchain is like a database. Different websites can read and write that data. Steemit is just one website that accesses the steem database. The others do that too. So there are ways to add features that steemit has not yet added, on other websites a person could create. As an example of programming code that can access the steem blockchain/database, see http://piston.readthedocs.io/en/develop/lib.html I don't know if you program or not, but anyone can come up with cool new ways to access the blockchain data and make their own websites to present that data, for example by making a site that shows replies and makes a sound or something, whenever a new one comes in.

ahh ok, I just thought someone made a copycat website with the same purpose as this.

yes that's right anyone can any number of sites or mobile apps using the blockchain/database. Those might as well be better looking than steemit.com itself. I too intend to spend some coding some thing. let see how much effort it takes.

This thought has definitely already crossed my mind. I check my account a lot to see if there has been any interaction, and it would be so much more efficient if there was a notification for a new/unread response.
