Good post. I'm new on steemit and it's good to get an overview of some of the issues in the community. As much as possible I would like to contribute to making the system fairer.

Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

  • Disagreement on rewards
  • Fraud or plagiarism
  • Hate speech or trolling
  • Miscategorized content or spam
