I don't see anything wrong with self upvoting quality work that you put a lot of time and effort into. Exclusively upvoting yourself whether you're a whale or plankton is just wrong IMO.

Agreed, this is my outlook as well, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Well said @xsrian-cooking. I feel the same.

I'm still a newbie, but I've been upvoting my own content as well as others. I try to search out those that do the same in return, but it's not always that easy I'm finding. Take care brother!

It seems that the consensus is unanimous that it is perfectly fine to self-up-vote as long as your self-votes do not comprise the majority of your voting each day.

Ooh tough question! My opinion is that we are all free to act how we want.. so long as we dont cause harm to others or indeed the ecosystem. If i write a great post then ive added the most important thing, good content, and for sure am worthy of my own tiny vote, or large one if im one of the few believers who have invested their money into steem.

Also, since were all here for different reasons we can decide what we want to ndo with our vp. I also think that whales should keep a significant amount of vp or delegate it to ensure manual curation still happens... and for sure exclusive self voting by anyone is a real sad existence on steemit!

For sure, I also do not think there is anything wrong with any account self-voting to a minimal degree. It is when we see whales with 100,000+ VP self-voting on 5+ posts a day that really hurts the system.

I agree with upvoting once own content with 100% and I have done that most of my Steemit time. It has helped me to grow my account and to give back more and more every day as I leave plenty of voting power for others. I think everyone should do that to redistribute wealth from top to bottom. @taskmaster4450 even had a campaign about that one day I think.

Agreed, so what is your stance on groups like @tribesteemup, @earthtribe, and @freedomtribe self-voting on 1 post/day - 1 post/week? Arguably it is almost necessary to help grow the group account SP more and grow the group as a whole instead of that one extra vote going to someone else in the group. As far as I know these three group accounts do not currently self-vote, but if they did, would it be better, worse, or neutral for their communities, and the Steemit community as a whole?

Totally justified and popular tool to grow the community account. I think @Tribesteemup should be careful because the account is a whale. A post every few days feels right there.

As long as the account delivers quality and helps to grow community it is cool to self-upvote for the entire Steem ecosystem. This wealth will benefit so many people in the long run.

Technically TSU is a dolphin that votes like a whale, but I get your meaning. TSU doen not really need to self-vote anyway due to the large deligation, so yes TSU should be more careful about this (and we are, I cannot even remember the last time the TSU account even made a post). For the smaller groups like ET and FT, it is more significant to occasionally self-vote to grow the group, although since TSU up-votes the ET and FT posts, the self-votes on those accounts still does not mean a whole lot either, although it should have a bigger impact in the future. I agree with you buddy, and thank you for the extra discourse.

I always upvote my own articles 100%, but only the articles. My comments, I only upvote those that someone upvoted less than $0.03 and that @dustsweeper did not upvote. These, I upvote to $0.03. I hate to see upvotes going to the trash...

As long as there is $0.01 with any vote on any comment or post, the vote is not dust, it counts for sure. You do not have to get to $0.03 for you to receive a reward. Where did you get that information?

I do not disagree with your tactics, they are perfectly fine, and well within the realm of self-voting minimally. I am just curious where you learned that a comment/post must be at least $0.03 to obtain a reward?

To tell the truth, for a comment to receive the reward, the vote must be at least $0.02. Total votes below this value are simply considered by steemit as dust and they don't receive the rewards. That is why @dustsweeper was created. Go there and they will explain exactly what happens with this votes.

huh, I was always under the impression that dust votes had to be $0.00. I will look into this further, learn something new every day :-) Thanks buddy.

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

I follow curation trails that vote on me so I get 30-50 all kinds of wierd % self upvotes! I support this platform, great artists like you and other creators, my content is investing information and helping to grow this one! Hope our growing steemit communities can work together no matter our difference of opinions.

Absolutely! And I feel like everyone that has commented here is on the same page - its fine to self up-vote with no more than 20% of your votes each day. It only helps support the worthy causes we are perusing.

I'm freshly arrived plankton, so didn't even realise it was an issue before reading this. Something to think on. Cheers.

It does not seem to be something that many disagree with, self voting should be fine as long as it does not comprise the majority of your voting each day. 20% or less on your own posts seems to be acceptable.

I need to find more cool posts to upvote then, pronto! :D

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by ELAmental from the Minnow Support Project. SelfVote like you mean it!

Self-voting exclusively is a really selfish thing to do but I do agree that as long as you are supporting others, why wouldn't you support yourself too? Yes, it does show that you believe in what you have written and pointing out that is has value. I agree with you 💚

I am so surprised that not even one person on this thread objected to self voting. It seems I was wrong about it still being a highly debated topic. Everyone seems to agree with my and TSU's outlook on this. Thank you for your input @zen-art!

I've always made it a point to not upvote myself, as my whole reason for coming to the platform was to build an audience for my writing, so when Steemauto started voting for my posts, because I'm on the curation trail I have it upvoting, I've been carefully removing the upvotes.

So thanks for this post, which has given me a new perspective, and made me see that I'm not just being a tad anal, but telling the universe that in essence I don't value my own work.

I probably won't start actively upvoting my own posts any time soon, with the exception of those specifically for charity, but from here on out I'll allow those autovotes to stand.

That is a great approach and I am sure no one will loose respect for you in doing that. I am glad I have opened your mind about this topic, and I am surprised that you were the only one that commented that previously did not self vote at all. Props my friend, I applaud your efforts, and also your willingness to change for the better using new wisdom. Blessings!

Blessings to you as well! I found this a very interesting post, and yeah, I'm a lifelong learner, and always up for learning new things! ;-)

Thank you! I always live by the philosophy of - "always the student, always the teacher". We all have something we can teach each other.

I completely agree.
Our diversity is our strength, and our diversity of perspective can and will stand us all in good stead in the long run.

True that!
