We’ve been thinking about our license and the Steem vision. So in accordance with our beliefs in freedom and innovation, we’ve decided to change the Steem license to the MIT open source license.

Before, Steemd code was restricted to use on the Steem blockchain or with permission from Steemit Inc. Now you can use any part of the source code for your own projects.

That's also why we're opening Steem up. Developers will drive Steem innovation, and for that they need full access to the codebase. So now they have it! We look forward to all the amazing things you and the community do with Steem code!

Wow what a Statement, amazing! But wasn't that the problem with Dan in the first place? He wanted it like that and Steemit.inc not? For me this looks positive, but are there as well some negative sites? Someone can enlighten me here?
Is this good for me like an user and investor, or could this be a problem, because everyone can clone Steemit now? What are you thoughts here?

The fact that we can clone Steem is a good thing. We can try out new things, test how they work in a way that failure is more acceptable, and as long as Steem remains willing to hard fork, they can incorporate any innovations which are proven to bring value.

I see, thanks for your comment, very helpful. So overall we could see here a faster development...

Indeed very helpful!

Wowow ! Is steem really up that much ! ? I did notice my wallet value has really jumped , do you think it will drop again , or keep riseing !? Thanks for the info !👍👍👍

I think it will stay a while where it is now.....

Thats great news !👍👍👍

It seems that will do what Dan wanted. Shame they couldn't have agreed this earlier. Let's see if others start their own. I'd prefer to see Steem/Steemit grow than for it to fragment.

The steem account seems to be low on spare SP again, so I don't know if new users will have trouble signing up. Looks like some were added anyway

Yeah, like you said, shame they couldn't agree this earlier, maybe now @dantheman will come back.... I like him as a developer, he is brilliant!

Was that the reason why people can't sign up the last days? And how can it be solved?

He's clearly not coming back. He drew attention to the Open Source issue at the end, but he left because he wanted to leave, and do other things.

... like he said, he is building ships for other people....

They ought to be able to code something to keep the steem SP topped up

The real solution is to revamp the onboarding process. Our current signup process is simply not sustainable. It's actually really expensive.

Is it essential to give new users some SP? Could it be allocated once they have performed some specific tasks, e.g. post, comment, fill in profile. Of course those could be spoofed by a bot too. I can see the current scheme would not scale if there was a flood of new users as Mastodon is getting. They got some media coverage and have gone from 50k to 400k users in about a week.

I'm interested to see what suggestions the community comes up with for you.

This is something we're working on.

The onboarding needs to be designed both to let us scale and secure the network against attack... think about it. Usernames on Steem are super valuable. They are attached to a single key, and this could be easily abused.

Not to mention that it IS essential to give users some SP. We're working on it, but this is a tricky problem. It's very specific to blockchains, go figure!

Once we get past this, a lot of paths widen by a mile.

Lots of challenges. I think people need to give you time to get the pieces in place, but keep on updating us with news as you get it. We've been a bit starved in the past and then people tend to speculate. Good luck

Thanks, I'll do what I can. :)

Did the new account fee drop after HF18 like it was supposed to?

I have to say this is a great platform and I am so glad it's going open source. Good job guys and girls!

Slow rise is better...

It is preferable to a sustainable increase with time, would be steem as a great investment, greetings.

Could i possibly get your link to your badges , i cant seem to find them anywhere , and would like to check them out , thanks !😊👍

Awesome thanks !👍
