I can't be the only one that has noticed how different the general feeling of each social media platform is. In the past week I have been spending a large majority of my online time split between Steemit and Poloniex, maybe 10% on facebook with those two sites taking up a majority of the rest of my time.
I go on Facebook to catch up on what is going on with my IRL friends. I eventually grew tired of the inconsequential posting and garbage that was filling my timeline. I found myself unfollowing people rapidly - I would guess I actually follow less than 500 of my over 1000 friends on there (how sad is that?)
So I created a "sok" account to stay connected with my like-minded friends. I never wanted to create an echo chamber as I feel only hearing what you agree with is a dangerous things but there hits a point where I just cannot take the statism any longer and I am TIRED of fighting it. I'm not giving up in arguing for Anarchism and voluntary interaction but for my own sanity I have to choose my battles and lately I have sided on the side of rolling my eyes and scrolling past.
Facebook pisses me off: Steemit gives me hope.
The trolling definitely is less here on steemit although that is partially replaced with spamming. "Bro! Upvote my GARBAGE and I will upvote YOUR GARBAGE." I get it, this is completely a money-making opportunity for some people and I have started to make a point of replying to the spamming and flagging it.
But on Steemit people have a general feeling of hope and creation. Building something and showing it off. Showing like-minded friends that YOU are doing to be part of the solution.
Facebook is anything but.
That is why facebook is largely irrelevant to me, and I can't imagine I am alone.
My sentiments exactly! I have felt like a dark cloud has passed and the sun is now shinning again once disengaging with FB and transferring my time and energy over here to Steemit. This platform seems to breed a more optimistic and engaged populace (yes there is the spam and purely money motivated individuals - but you cant escape from that anywhere online). It certainly is refreshing and gives hope! Thank you for your thoughts.

There is definitely a more positive feeling here. It is almost like facebook is only there to get people to argue: it seems it is a majority of the engagements on there!

It has certainly morphed to that. I think it is because people feel emboldened to just "yell" their opinions since they are sitting safely behind their screens rather than to engage in meaningful discussion. The current state of the "opinion news" that we are all bombarded with has likely fueled this type of interaction. Over here, one needs to actually create quality and meaningful content, which weeds out those who just want to yell one liners. Is a breath of fresh air!

Its engagement over quality. Posts are made with the intention of pissing people off to drive engagement. That feeds into itself so FB can promote to advertisers how much engagement and time people spend on there. If you post and dont argue with people commenting you dont continually engage.

I enjoy finding old friends and being able to communicate with family and relatives I wouldn’t normally be connected with, but I use Facebook primarily as a vehicle for posting my custom figurine work

Exactly. Facebook is just pretty much just not interesting to me anymore. Except for cross-promotion of my steemit account!

I agree with you, I have a feeling that people here have a better sense of what really matters in life. They tend to think more about their environment and their society, what harms it and what could improve the current situation. That's a nice change.

Exactly! There is a downside to mostly having positive things on steemit as well... Im going to try and write another blog about it: keep an eye out!

It feels weird for me to be on Facebook and click like and not be paying someone. lol I can't wait until everyone is off of that garbage site.
