HOW TO SEE IF YOU HAVE BEEN MUTED OR UNFOLLOWED

It's inevitable that one day, some of your followers will decide that your blog is just not what they are looking for anymore. When you see that number go down, you immediately wonder "What did I do?"

Sometimes you haven't done anything. The follower's feed may have become too much or maybe they just aren't steeming anymore. Or maybe they just aren't interested in the topics on your blog anymore. Perhaps they never intended to stay a follower?

The problem I see with not knowing who has unfollowed or muted you, is that you might just be clicking away, hard at work upvoting and resteeming for them. All the while, they aren't even reading your blog anymore! In fact, after checking a few accounts, it seems pretty clear to me that there are certain users who are deliberately following just to dump you, while you continue following them and working hard to promote them!

Fellow Steemians, don't waste your votes! Your votes could be going elsewhere, to someone who appreciates you...

Now don't get me wrong, nobody has to give a follow for a follow. It's a free Steemit, after all. But if you are thinking that your "friend" is working as hard as you to help one another get exposure, you may just be rowing the boat in circles because the other guy already jumped ship!

So is there a tool out there to check your follower list? You bet there is! Simply copy and paste this link into your browser, and replace the parenthesis and dots with your username:

https://steem.makerwannabe.com/index.php?username=(.......)&period=4

You'll be able to see who's following, who has muted your blog (so it looks like they follow but they dont), and who has unfollowed. Have a thick skin guys. You may have an Unfollow from someone you spent a lot of time getting to know. It's puzzling and for me, quite personal.

I admit, I have muted a couple people who were posting literally every 10 minutes. Folks, I just can't scroll through all that (no wifi out here in the sticks)! I'll give them another chance in a couple weeks. But for now, every ounce of data that we can analyze about our blogs will help us to improve. And who knows, you might just win back some followers.

PLEASE RESTEEM SO OTHERS CAN HAVE THIS TOOL AS WELL. THANKS!

Perfect, and just what I was looking for. I don't usually sweat losing followers, but I had a few followers that I was assiduously supporting, thinking that I was getting some level of reciprocity. One could argue that this is a bad way to use Steemit, and one would be right. Lesson learned.

For me too. I was trying to help someone and they had unfollowed me the same day they followed. But thats ok, now I know and can help someone else right! Glad you could use the tool. Have a great day!

Thanks randowhale! Say hi to Moby for me ;0)

I am now following you, but I think this app only lets you know when you are infollowed, not muted. but i could be wrong.

NICE!

Haha.....I agree...those suckers need to get got

I would only hope that people follow me simply because they like the quality of content that I have to offer. I feel that we trying to build a momentum of people in this community, so that we can learn and share with each other common passions and ideas. So my perspective, if someone unfollows me than so be it. I post a bunch about gardening and health so I would hope like minded folks would join my journey. Thanks for sharing and upvoted.

I totally agree. I wish everyone was just as wholesome. I've seen an influx of new people tearing through the community though and I want to help protect us. Ultimately, we would all like to make some moola to help our families, but I've seen some people coming in who look predatory. So now you have another tool in the toolbox. And you are one of the ones I wish great success for! Thank you for your support hon!

Its all about making steemit great and having the tools to make our online community better...thanks for reading!

That's a very handle tool, thanks for posting! I have 1 muting me and 10 people unfollowed. I'm quite happy with that to be honest, I've had a LOT more unfollow me on other platforms.

I'm glad you posted it as this could be useful for people who are really bothered by this fact. I have to try and stay away from being bothered by this, or else I'd be consumed! Haha

Awesome! Thank you for sharing this valuable tool. I have it bookmarked for my page. Resteemed and upvoted, too.

Thank you! I thought it should be out there for everyone to use too.

nice post

@sflaherty Your thoughts on this?

I love this post so much. This is no different from he REAL world. I see people posting trying to dictate how others should or should not behave but the realty is we are individuals with different perspectives and perceptions. Some people want to be followed because of content and others want money its just the reality. I appreciate your well thought out post. We all want different things from this experience and I believe people should be allowed to be themselves. If its not for you just skip over their post and if its your style upvote and follow..js

Spot on! Thank you for a genuine comment!

This is literally what I did, I only followed a few people and saw my homepage fill up with interesting stuff. but just SO much of it. So I muted someone, I just wanted less, wanted to concentrate on a few to get started. Then I realize that mute seems to wipe out everything they post everywhere. that's mute alright. I didn't want to end a friendship, I just wanted to turn my attention to another friend.

Now I am kinda stuck, just looking around and using some search-fu to locate things that I am interested in. Rather than being able to follow "tag?" 30 good content creators that I can filter, I can follow 5 - 10? Even then if each of them post 3 articles a day ( @papa-prepper, @mericanhomestead), that's 30 well written, thought out, content containing articles daily? Who's got time for that?

Is there a sidebar? I place where I can group the people I want to follow, then view the creators I want to view? Without keeping a list of 30 creators (so i have the links all In one place, and unmuting the 1 I want to see? We have all used youtube. Kinda like a channel?

Prolly to negative - frustrated.

Wub

I feel like that is coming soon. The steemit team have explained that they needed to work on the back end before they could work on the front end, the user interface. For now, you could create a favorites file in your browser and bookmark the blog page of each of your favorites. I know that sounds so 90s, right?! Hope that helps alittle at least and I will ask around and see if anyone does it another way. Hope to see you around!

Very nice info. I also do not like to follow other blogs just for the sake of following I take the time to look through each persons blog and if anything in there posted history catches my fancy then I follow. But this "I followed you now you follow me" thing is just ridiculous. I am not looking for content that is not interesting to me. THIS IS NOT FACEBOOK PEOPLE! lol my apologies for yelling.

You yell all you want! Yell for me too, because I feel the same way. Id like to be able to find quality content to spend my limited time on. Cheers!

I happen to read this post from @greenacrehome blog page he re-steemed it. and lol I am going through their blog history now and followed. Love life and natures way and homestead on!

Also, checked out your blog and intro post and I'm following! Cant wait to see some woodworking stuff. And we think the same about squirrels Lol

LOL Cool
