I live in Trinidad, a small country xD I'm in the process of trying to figure it out for my own home here, there isn't a huge culture of homesteading here so it's kind of new to me.

To me, all it means is trying to do things that help your family in a little bit more of a sustainable way. Maybe have some container gardens (instead of in ground), where you grow lettuce, or even making your own bread instead of buying from the store. If you don't have any yard or a small yard, they call it urban homesteading. :)

Planting in the ground can't be helped for market purposes, which is what I'm doing. I've never done much container growing, the dirt always seems to get so hard xD I am working on it though, mostly thanks to you guys xD, I'm thinking of making boxes in my yard using small logs.
It would really make a big difference in the way we eat, which I think is unhealthy. And as a farmer myself, I can tell you, it's hard to know if produce being sold were given the required windows before harvesting after being treated with chemical, so it can be quite iffy, even if you weren't trying to eat organic.Thanks for the encouragement!
