DIY STEEMIT RAW (Sun)Glasses + tutorial

I call it RAW because it is literally RAW. The edges, the surfaces and the design are raw.

It took me days before I got this result. I made it all from scratch because I had to redesign the hinges... It would have been easier to purchase metal hinges rather than design them from the glasses. But I did it anyway because I couldn't find any shop that sells these hinges. That is why the frame is kinda chunky :-D. I decided not to make the nose pads, I still need to figure out how to make proper nose pads. :-(

As you can see below, the hinges, ( I guess I have to call them hinges) they have a "nipple" above and below. The "temples" (sides of the glasses or sticks did not fit in well with the hinges. So I sanded the 2 "nipples on the hingesAWAY so they would be flat.

I also printed out 2 lenses in black. But they did not fit in the frame because they simply are not bendable like normal lenses should be. I wanted to buy the real lenses. I went two days ago to all opticians and just 2 opticians were able to custom make the lenses. BUT..... they would cost me 105 euros! The other optician asked for 60 euros and I had to wait 2 weeks....
If they would ask 30 euros I would not mind it. But more than 30 euros would be too expensive for me.

Here you see I was sanding the lenses as well.

I watched on Youtube 2 very informative tutorials to make these (sun)glasses.
One from Autodesk Fusion 360 how to bend models:

The other one is a tutorial about the frame by WilliamKempton, another intelligent guy:

William Kempton took the design first from Illustrator and then imported it to Fusion. (I don't have Illustrator).

Looks fabulous @fathin-shihab, especially from the front. You have great skills at 3D printing. Do you have a picture with the lenses inside?

Thanks! No I dont because the lenses doesnt fit because they

Wow it looks magical. I am also a 3D artist making architectural visualization, I am very glad to find you here. Upvoted and followed, I have a lot to learn fom you.

Thanks! Nice to meet another 3d artist here at steemiy

really nice and very thorough. you might want to consider using Inkscape as an alternative to illustrator. it's free and open source

Thanks for the information. I will try next time :-). Illustrator is indeed expensive :-(

Orang Indonesia bilang: super kreatif.

A very nice design. Resteemed :-)

Thank you @lichtblick :-)

Very nice work @fathin-shihab Upvoted & resteemed!

We are making a list of designers here on Steemit who wants to improve the visibility of their work by being featured in our soon to be daily design inspiration gallery.

Please state in the comments how you would like to be featured, with a linked picture to your post, or with only a link without a picture.

thanks @design-inspi. :-). I am not sure which link you mean? you mean a link to my post? I don't think I have linked picture.

Just if it's ok that I share your work and link it back to you :)

Ok thats fine :-). I will wait for your post👍

Very nice! You seem to be very good at this designing thing :]
Upvoted and RESTEEMED...

Thanks @msg768 :-).

Wow awesome process! Seems to be a lot of work, keep it up it looks great.

Thanks! It was a lot of work yeah. I will!

Just. Too. Cool. ~Resteemed.

Thank you @architrader :-

Great project, looks pretty solid to me. I am a CAD constructor too. Mostly working with CATIA or Pro/E. I just love creating something completely new and visualize it afterwards with a 3D prototype model.
If you got any questions, feel free to ask :)
Is your 3D-Printer selfmade or did you buy a fully assembled one?

Greetings from Germany,
@ddot

Thanks @ddot :-). This 3d printer is selfmade from a kit. It was my husband's (@tarekadam) first 3d printer. Now he has a prusa and this one is mine now :-)

@fathin-shihab...How amazing! I'd love to have a pair of those! Do you make them to sell?

Thanks @thethreehugs :-). I didn't make these glasses for selling because it takes hours to print 1 :-(. But thanks for your sweet tip :-)

If not, you should and market them..

i love that you showed the process! :) that's why i upvoted. i think with refinement you could put out some pretty sweet glasses.

Thanks @teamhumble :-) yes, with real lenses would be much nicer.

This is really awesome, great idea with the hinges! Awesome to see the entire item was printed! I might need to invest in a 3D printer sometime soon.

Thanks @longfield98. Yes, it would be a nice investment

What printer is this ?

This is a printrbot metal

Thanks .

i think this will a huge hit These looks amazing it might become a trend setter
