India Has The Highest Number of Facebook Users In The World—What Does It Mean For Steemit?

in steemit •  7 years ago  (edited)

Facebook is undeniably the biggest and most popular social media site in India. There has been an exponential rise in users from India on various social media websites across the world in the past year. A year ago Facebook had 213 million users from India and this year we're a lot higher and have overtaken USA. It's only a matter of time when we see over 300 million users from India.

Steemit has paid out more than $20 Million dollars in 1.5 years through it's upvotes system and community based curation of content. How much has Facebook paid you for your content and profiteering off your personal data? Steem currency has risen at a stable rate after the massive dumping ended earlier this year when hyper-inflation was brought under control.

Huge potential from for Steemit from India

There's a lot of room for Steemit and other applications built on the blockchain to grow in India and benefit from onboarding users from India in the long run.

  1. India is the 2nd largest english speaking nation in the world.
  2. Over 300 million smartphone users are online and signing themselves up on social media platforms.
  3. YouTube has found a great potential and has been marketing it's social media platform in several ways.
  4. YouTube's mobile watch time is growing at 400% annually from India.
  5. There's a massive upside in bringing India's rural population to the internet.
  6. Huge untapped potential in e-commerce.
  7. Easy to start online businesses and a fast paced economy.
  8. Huge demand from brands for strong online presence in India.
  9. Social media influencers are high in demand amongst brands and PR agencies for promotions and marketing.
  10. Cross platform marketing potential.
  11. Huge potential for targeted marketing campaign for signing-up users from India.

Steemit Education

  1. Steemit has quite the learning for anyone new to this platform and education is key.
  2. India Steemit Accelerator was one of my initiatives to take Steemit forward in India.
  3. Current users can easily on-board new ones and help them with the basics of the platforms.
  4. Videos, podcasts, posts etc whatever it takes to help new users to understand the use of the platform allowing it to scale.
  5. Steem is one of the fastest blockchains out there today. This needs to be marketed as well.
  6. Marketing the Steem blockchain to the masses across the globe. Teach people how it works, it's use cases and potential to build apps on it.

Reduce Mis-information about Steemit

Talk to people and point them to the correct information. All the information that you need to know about the platform is available on this and other social media platforms. You can do your due diligence to find the truth about how this place works and if it's real or not.

People are coming to Steemit from all over the world in many different ways. Yesterday I posted a thread sharing my story about how I discovered the platform, hundreds of users of the platform posted their own stories in the comments. You can read the post here!

Investing In People!

Growth in cryptocurrency adoption from India will signal a massive movement towards these new protocols and technologies in the next few years. It would be wise for developers and marketers to look at India as a huge market for Steem based applications. Starting now and continuing their efforts well into the future, might just pay off.

As you know greater adoption of the Steem blockchain and cryptocurrency can possibly lead to a greater demand and better price for one of our favorite cryptos. I hope Steemit and various other platforms continue to welcome users from India and the Indian sub-continent.

I'm not sure if that 241 mil figure is an accurate representation of real, unique users. Lots of bot farms in India, so I'd say less than half are probably actual people.

But still, if Steemit can get some traction in India, a country which has a significant population of tech-savvy users, we could be looking at insane network effects and price surges.

i agree with your concern of many bot farms originating from India ... hopefully, we'll have many people from India that do indeed provide quality content to SteemIt.

Can you imagine Steemit lifting Indians out of poverty, or at least allowing people to supplement their meager earnings? If Steemit it catches on in India, it will spread like wildfire in no time.

Yeah, imagine the entire country of India getting on Steemit and getting paid for being online; it will change so many lives!

exactly, hardware is cheap in India, so there is a mining potential if there could be reliable source of energy in cold regions.

Great article @firepower!

The obvious presence and uprise of India in the realm of cryptocurrencies and especially in the case of our Steemit platform will create monumental cultural shifts as well as financial rewards for the whole ecosystem.

The presence of Eristica, D.Tube and the likes will blow the situation right out of the water for everyone's benefits. Thanks a lot for this update and great data underlining the importance of India's presence among the giants of telecommunication!

Namaste :)

According to the article there was a massive rise of Facebook users in the past one year , A big credit to that goes to Mr.Mukesh Ambani from Reliance for bringing the Jio internet services.(it was free for one year)
This move by him made India the largest consumer of the internet.😊

Great piece of information! Thanks a lot for sharing, I hope other people will read this comment thread.

Namaste :)

Namaste :)
People like Good and Honest posts.
If this thread has the above mentioned qualities.
Then Why not?

It is true. I am a German national living mostly in India and I have to say before JIO the Internet was EXPENSIVE and unreliable. Since JIO all the other providers get in line and upgrade their towers and their price-structure. Still JIO is the best offer with a huge distant to the second, which at the moment seems to be IDEA but that is a moving target as all the others change their "special offers" almost weekly. At 1 GB data per DAY for a meager 500 Rs a month (about US$ 8.-) this is still even better than anything you get in Germany.

Yes , Jio has been a complete Game Changer.
In the span of one year , it took over the entire indian market of mobile network providers.
Like you said , it was because of Jio , other network providers had to upgrade thier plan and towers.
But your slightly wrong about the Jio price structure .
For 459Rs you get 1gb/day for nearly 3 months.

You are right, my bad, thats even BETTER. :-))

One day Maximum users will be from Indian and we are trying to maximise it too.

Yes you are right..

Indian's will be everywhere :) shared on my timeline

Great share ,informative artical.
Imagine if all the facebook user come to steemit and leave facebook. To make this happen we should share the the love of steemit to our loves one on facebook or near and dear.
This feeling is making me exotic.

Great article, some very good points made! Trends in India certainly can make major ripples in the crypto and social media world. Kate

I think reliance Jio is one reason for this boost in India's internet use :D. Anyways being an Indian, i am glad that i got to know about Steemit before it is too late. Whenever i refer my friends to Steemit, they would get motivated and sign up. Then the quality users survives and the "i want to make lots of money in a week squad" would give up, which is absolutely okay as we only need quality users here :)

Thats very true.Only quality users survive in the end.Whenever I recommend Steemit to someone I stress on the quality part, passion for writing, blogging etc.Hope I am not demotivating the other kinds. But doesn't matter as they always have other social medias.

Thanks to the great initiatives by @firepower in spreading awareness about Steemit .Lets hope for more and more passionate people join this platform from India

Thanks for this informative post @firepower. Have you written something about how to convert SBD/Steem into 'real money' because I beleieve there's still a lot of conufsion regarding what to do after you've spent a considerable time here on Steemit and how to get real money. (At least I am still unaware and with so many technicalities thrown at the drop of hat while explaining the whole money concept, I kind of feel lost :/)

India has a great potential for taking Steemit to billion people! The growth of facebook users and youtube is attributed to competitive mobile data price. Even the developers are not aware of Steemit, that is the main reason for my tech talk at upcoming meetup in Bangalore.

Wow steem on

There is so many different cultures in India. The diversity of the influx new users to Steemit is mind boogling. Watching communities grow is one of the most interesting things to watch here on Steemit.

Having been to India, I must say that the country has an amazing percentage of intelligent people. It is quite common there to have ambitions to get into fields of science and medicine. One of the few countries where education gets more respect than just wealth. This is good news for steemit.
Can you imagine good writers from India making 10-20 bucks a day. That is life changing money there. Of course people will make a whole lot more. If India gets into this then the neighborhood will pay attention as well.

Indians have huge potential to do any task, so much of information for the newbies, thanks for caring.

Oh! this is really surprising me I thought philippines is the highest user of facebook.. Now i know india is good information @firepower

Great post@firepower what excellent publication friend and I like that the steemit platform helps with its contribution to the growth in knowledge and economy of the inhabitants of india in terms of learning platform technology for users through the reward and content evaluation

Good writing, very informative post, many information include here,I know that India is the 2nd largest English speaking nation in the world. Many Indian doing very good on steem,Really it is very big platform,I read your post,It is very impressive, good analytic post also.

Your posts are quite helpful..i must say..@firepower

Indians are going to rock here also. More and more indians are joining daily.

It means mark zukerburg ko india walun nai itna ameer bnaya and ab steemit walay ko b bnayangay... Chlo dekhtay hai..

I think rewarding users for their content on social media is something unprecedented.

Given the size of Facebook, and even other smaller players like twitter it’s easy to realize the massive growth potential available for steemit!

Good luck to all!!

@firepower one day maximum Indian will make steemit on top, because Indian has the spirit to do anything.

Great post @firepower . I also believe steemit has wonderful potential and that when it's spreads world wide it has the power to substantially reduce poverty . So long as the steempower isn't all in the hands of the greedy we can all do our part . Thanks for posting . Upvoted and resteemed 😊

That's true @firepower Because when Indian users start mass adoption of steemit then their is a high chance that the demand for steem is going to rise a lot but first we have to properly introduce steemit to Indian users so they can join this awesome community without doing any silly Mistakes.

This is all so interesting, although it's also beyond me. I'm trying to understand more and more all the time. Frankly, as a total non-tech person, I'm fairly proud of myself for getting into Steemit and from there learning bits and pieces about cryptocurrencies in general.

Thanks for the post! It'll be so interesting to see what permutations take shape in the social media realm over the next few years! Xx, Kay

Great firepower! India

Well so much you can say, Africa is however sparsely represented, g or almost same reasons they use Facebook more and however that would change if a to India and Africa represents so well, then there will be change and growth of bother consumers and investor

It's my first day in Steemit as my account got approved today and it is so encouraging to see my fellow countrymen already onboard the ship! As you have rightly pointed out, we Indians are always ready to jump on any new social media bandwagon. The success of Quora in India is another such testament that being a country of 1.2 billion people, it is obvious that we have a massive presence on social media. With internet access getting cheaper and more widespread as we speak, we can be a great success on Steemit too. It's so great to see you conducting Meetups in India and I wish I had known about it before. Nevertheless, looking forward to a great time here and seeing more and more Indians on the platform.

@firepower - we can think of conducting more meetings across bangalore in the similar fashion. This can attract new people to the platform. From Bangalore, we can spread this to Chennai - Kochi - Hyderbad - Mumbai - Pune - Delhi - Kolkata etc. I think we already have users in most of these cities.

@firepower facebook has so many user from india and pakistan as well but steemit also has many indians.
As india populaton is also very high and indian love to use facebook as a social media they prefer facebook on other social media sites

yeah indian people mostly on facebook and update status at every minute but if they come to steemit they can earn but some of them like to share on fb and not believe in online earning. they have half information and that is a problem they avoid but i tried my best to give them real information that how can we use technology and smartphone for our smart earning. one of my friend already on steemit and enjoy steemit after get proper information and he is now happy that its good to share photo on steemit rather then facebook and soon 3 people will join although lots of international users join after seeing success in steemit and i wish i can see more people of india in steemit. i am so inspired by you and i wish i can bring as much as people here.

Nice post! I followed you, looking forward to see more awesome post in the future. Don't forget to follow me back. I also upvoted this.

I think we will see a huge growth once the ball starts rolling in Indian users! Imagine how fast new users will join us once we start to get exponential user growth from India!

Great write up

Exposure or rather public knowledge of the site is currently low but surely one day should have the highest users here.

i agree with your concern of many bot farms originating from India ... hopefully, we'll have many people from India that do indeed provide quality content to SteemIt.

*it's just a joke :)

Dear brother @firepower I will start a blockchain in my friends and relatives in start STEEMIT user and invest in here. That's good effect of it.

You are right @firepower.

There are a great potential of steem in India. In fact, all the Asian countries are the best target of Steem. In fact India is the second largest online market with over 460 million internet users (Checked this on Internet usage in India - Statistics & Facts) !!! Right after China !

So, @ned, you will need a Indian girl as @sweetsssj to conquer this market :D :D :D I could be this girl. Just need to learn hindi first ;-)

By the way, the fact that India has a lot of poverty can also contribute to the fast development of Steem over there. Steem can really change lives !

I wish you a lot of success to empower indians on Steem... :)

Great analysis! Interesting to know that India has the biggest amount of FB users. Statista is a very well reputated source of information.

If all these users migrate from FB to Steemit, they would increase the national GDP hehehe.

And congratulations for your initiative to promote Steemit in your country, that helps empowering people :)
