Penerapan kurikulum 2013 di tingkat SD,SLTP, dan SLTA di harapkan siswa akan lebih Aktif,Kreatif dan Inovativ dalam menerapkan proses pembelajaran.
Pendidik juga harus mampu meningkatkan minat belajar, walaupun pada kurikulum 13, siswa bukan menjadi objek lagi, namun dituntut lebih kreatif dan inovatif.
Kebijakan pemerintah untuk menerapkan kurikulum 13 merupakan bagian penguatan pendidikan karakter dalam menghadapi abad 21.
Konsep pendidikan karakter merupakan Konsep penerapan Kurikulum 2013 yang disambut positif oleh satuan tenaga kependidikan, praktisi pendidikan dan masyarakat.
Penerapan Kurikulum 2013 dapat meningkatkan mutu dan kualitas pendidikan di Tanah Air.
Sebab, siswa harus mampu menguasai perubahan-perubahan zaman seiring dengan berkembangnya ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi.
Pendidikan karakter yang di harapkan dari kurikulum 13 menurut Indonesia Heritage Foundation (IHF), telah menyusun serangkaian nilai yang selayaknya diajarkan kepada anak-anak, yang kemudian dirangkum menjadi
9 pilar karakter yaitu:
- Karakter cinta Tuhan Yang Maha Esa dan segenap ciptaan-Nya
- Kemandirian dan tanggung jawab
- Kejujuran/amanah dan bijaksana
- Hormat dan santun
- Dermawan, suka menolong dan gotong royong
- Percaya diri, kreatif, dan pekerja keras
- Kepemimpinan dan keadilan
- Baik dan rendah hati
- Toleransi, kedamaian dan kesatuan (dalam Andrianto,2011:21, dan
Megawangi, 2004:95).
Untuk itu, siswa dituntut lebih kreatif dan inovatif dalam pengembangan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi.
Begitu juga guru sebagai inspirator dan fasilitator hanya mengarahkan saja kepada peserta didik agar memiliki kompetensi kemampuan analisa.
Dengan demikian, sebagai guru harus mampu menguasai media / metoda pembelajaran agar siswa menguasai perubahan perkembangan zaman.
