I miss my echo chamber...

In Poe's very short story, The Mask of the Red Death, we see a great example of why echo chambers can be deadly. Drawing away from reality is not a viable long term solution.

However, steemit and d.tube illustrate why Facebook and Google have gone to such pains to create such customised echo chambers around their users. It's not because I have found anything offensive or challenging on steemit that I want to go back to my echo chamber... rather it's because I can't find anything compelling. steemit isn't alone here, alternative services such as Mastodon.social suffer the same fate. Facebook and Google make their money off my data because they know what I, as an individual personality, like looking at.

Steemit trending tab is but a mirror to steemit subculture. It's understandable that discussions of the steemit community, and blockchain currencies, dominate the content feed here. Although I appreciate such conversations, it's harder for me to find my own subcultures or filter their content out from all the noise. I know in time I'll be able to follow individuals that like the things I like and we'll create a community. At the present time, I can't see any easy ways to stave off the flood of information that isn't as personally relevant. It doesn't really cater to individual taste and I haven't yet found a community that just shares cool music videos and ancient memes

For me to stick around, I'll need to work out a way to filter out my dislikes and hone in on people who participate in subcultures that I'm interested in.

How do I walk the line between chaos and order. How could I create a system that would filter out most of what I don't want to see so the page isn't filled with pontificating about the block-chain but there are at least a couple of posts included so I'm not in an impenetrable echo chamber.

I assume there's a git hub somewhere, so I guess I have to be the change I want to see in the world
