Mike and I have been running websites and making a living off them for 15 years now. I've always been a freelancer photographer and Mike quit is job after his company went under and got bought up. By that time we had our first website running. And are surviving on different sites and income sources ever since.
But we've noticed within the last couple of years that our income through Adsense and affiliate programs are dropping and this trend is obviously frightening us. Everything we make through these websites actually goes into finance our For 91 Days Travel project but if this continues, it's just not sustainable!
It would be nice if For 91 Days would pay for itself but in the past it hasn't .... and then came STEEMIT, which actually gave us some hope for the future.
But what do to for example with our movie recommendation site? We have an average of 25k pageloads a day but we're just not able to monetize successfully. Our users are super internet savvy, never ever click on ads or buy anything through our links. We do have a great user base who become sponsors and in return they can browse our website ads free but the amount of work we've put in and the revenue we make is not equal.
So when I was browsing through one of the Steemit tools I've noticed JSECoin which is miner which uses your browser to mine their coins. They also let you mine through the browsers of your visitors on our website. It's such an none intrusive way to monetize your website AND it is a pretty green way to mine cryptocurrencies since they're using the CPU of the browser of visitors who would visit your website anyway. They also seem legit since they just recently got whitelisted by BitDefender. We're very curious about them and were wondering if anyone made experiences with them. Or what your thoughts are on them. We sent them an email with couple of questions and waiting on their answer before we decide to implement them or not.
If you're curious about JSECoin you can sign up and try their selfmining dashboard. As a disclaimer this link is an affiliate link, why send them a free sign up? Right?
And we would like to ask you about imput about other, new monetizing ideas for our Criticker Movie Site, start our own steemit based voting system for reviews people leave?
That‘s what friends are for (too). Your travel book project will be one of my next as I start working on it today. I should like to make a general presentation of you, a sort of written „artist portrait“, if you like. For friends in my vicinity I made short videos, too. Some of them can be seen on YouTube. Will be another theme on Steemit maybe. #videos: It‘s so much easier for you to use this medium for moneymaking. My partner is the no cell phone, no internet, no camera type and it is tough to produce a video without assistance. But you can do more with videos. Maybe my „problem“ can be your „solution“ (I speak in these terms because many successful business projects begin with an idea to solve a problem). Sometimes during or after lunch I think it might be nice to see a short video about some lifestyle or traveling stuff. Like Sarah Wiener‘s report, for example. We chose a country or region and... the disappointment is close. Some videos are just a short footage, others are too long and the introduction is a bore. Others are plastered with noisy ads. Some are really disturbing with unpleasant music and shouting, clapping and too much blabla... I would look for nice friendly smooth funny cultivated etc travel and culture reports with a duration of ten to fifteen minutes. There are some but I wasted so much time on them. Some teenies make dozens of reports about countries with really zero knowledge about the culture of their host country. Like a German guy in Japan who obviously only held monologues about nothing with so much to tell around. I looked at some of his videos because I could not believe my eyes. So, if you are labelled „for 91 days“ why can‘t you make a vlogging series like 11 minutes? DTube looks very promising. These are my themes now: looking for useful bots (why not), studying alt coins (btw), preparing myself for DTube, and presenting my projects and proposals on utopia-io. You are doing a lot of networking and that‘s good. Have you joined Discord and especially the German speaking group? This can be uplifting. I joined the Austrian group steemit-austria. There is so much information and support and also fun sometimes. The 6th Austrian meeting will be on Jan. 21 in Vienna and I am looking forward to many of those I am in exchange with. @yourmate hopefully will join the group and participate.
So, that‘s pretty much for here and now. Have a good day. 🙂😉

Thank you so much for your input and you're right, videos is very very promising and holds so much potential in fact the highest income for For 91 Days is through Youtube Videos. We do post of roughly could videos of the places we visit but to be honest, neither Mike or I want to stand in front of a camera (that's why I chose to stand behind it) and create and really want our videos reflect what a place is on it's own BUT ... I do cut together one final video with all the video highlights for each For 91 Days like this one for example:
I'm going to se what's going on Discord ... it's just hard sometime to pop in as the new guy.
@martinamartini You don't even know how much I value you your support and encouragement! You're our Austrian snowflake and sunshine!

Oh! I like your video! I saw it before. In some parts the coordination of music and film is real art work, fantastic. I like the music choice, too.
And the scenery. These old traditions look so weird. A long time ago, I watched Andalucia TV and they broadcast so much catholic events and on the other hand, in the evening there are quite extreme esoteric shows.
Don‘t say, it‘s nothing for me to stand in front of the camera. It‘s just practice. You both are handsome. A lot of not so handsome people run successful vlog series on YT! Start with a short intro or better, use the interview style. It‘s so much easier to reply the questions. I tried. If one of is shy, he can ask from the background. Or you just insert a question and answer it. With more routine, you can start to pep it up...
Discord: right now I am subscribed to the Austrian channel and some minnow support community. I am active in the first one and entered the other one by chance. I think you saw the info about the German community already. I posted it a short tlme ago. https://steemit.com/deutsch/@theaustrianguy/the-german-community-has-it-s-own-discord-server-now-weekly-meetups-planned-ger
You said something nice about me, in words that no one said to me before. You are giving me such a good feeling saying that I bring sunshine in your life. So do you. It‘s good to be useful and it‘s heaven to get appreciated.
Tell you an anecdote. We had a cat named snowflake who was aged and went over the rainbow several weeks ago. She just slept from one place to the other. I felt that only her body had gone but that the spirit of the cat is still around us. Maybe on quantum level some information came over to you? And Cat is one of my dozens of nicknames... So, hope that made you laugh or at least smile a little bit! I must stop. I wanted to read your books but now you are stopping me from it!! (Just kidding!) 😀

At work (at fun!!)... Some Steemians had severe issues to post these days with bandwith jumping up and down from 97 per cent to minus 172 per cent and there is no reason for. It‘s like being blocked, could only read... :((( I discovered mistakes in my former posts to you (the cat anecdote) and could not correct them, too bad. Now it works and I hope the turbulences are over.

I haven't been paid any coins since Christmas, so I am still evaluating it's functionality... What do you think? Sketchy?

@jpphotography just alerted us to https://smt.steem.io/ which might be another great solution.

I personally dont think using a webminer is a good idea... Its a too intrusive thing, whoever knows a bit about cryptos Will know that It is a really bad way to mine coins. May look easy, but no Control, and thus It May damage badly the computer hardware.
Good to know you are a web developer.
Do you know @utopian-io project already? I think It May be a good thing for you and your partner. They use the steem blockchain to reward quality contributions to open source projects.
Check them out and you Will probably find something to contribute for an extra income on steemit.

Thank you for your input, you're probably right ... it would be pretty intrusive but we're getting so down on the fact that we just are not able to monetize the site in a way both our users and us are happy but @jpphotography just mentioned https://smt.steem.io/ which might could work with Criticker.
Mike is writing programs over 20 years now.. he loves algorithms but to be honest, we're two people maintaining 4 sites all on our own, we couldn't take on any other projects BUT sow Mike @utopian-io maybe there is something he could help with.

On @utopian-io you can submit your existing non-profit projects and when they approve you, you get huge upvotes

We made ad money and have the sponsor options... but we might could remove it if Criticker would be @utopian-io worthy. Still a bit confused what it's all about though. #headisspinning

I was about to mention the incoming of SMT too, Altough i dont have much information about It. But by the look If you site, It might work, since It function based on user interaction.
There is two good things about utopian-io. First you can do contributions on the Free time, so It would be an extra.
Second is that If your have your open project, you can gather help through utopian, by writting task requests, and use your steem upvotes as an extra incentive.
