Don't use the link imgur gives you. Right click and copy image location and paste into your post.

    I'm not OP, but I had a similar issue as well. I did a direct link on one of my posts ( https://steemit.com/art/@jrkirby/low-poly-fox ) and it changed it on me, breaking it. It went rom i.imgur.com/XkJUC6T.jpg to leading to a 400 error. Not sure why.
