Looking back at 2 months on Steemit

in steemit •  7 years ago

I'm now 2 months active on Steemit and would like to share my journey so far with you.
Lets start with the fact that Steemit is not a being quick rich scheme. I want to get noticed it will take some time and hard work. For sure, if you are like me not the best writer in the world.

The title

Choosing a good title for your post is important. In popular tags your post get snowed under so fast so you need to try to attract the people instantly. Yes, your post is also shown on the feed of your followers but also here it is important. Suppose that they are following 500 steemians, so also there it can get snowed under.

The first 3 lines

The first 2 or 3 lines of the post are also shown at the feed or in the tag categories. Also here you have to pay attention. If you can summaries your post in 1 or 2 lines, than don't neglect to do it. Again you need to attract the attention.

Reputation

I do understand that people do find the Steem Power more important but reputation can't be neglected. Humans do have more believe and trust in people with a higher reputation. I can imagine that of a lot of us, browse through the feed and see an interesting title but just don't read it cause the reputation of the other is not high enough.
Your reputation increase of other Steemians Up-vote or comment on one of your posts or comments.

Posts

In these 2 months, I wrote around 70 blogposts and 380 comments. In the beginning it was hard to be unnoticed. Some of my better post were written during those dark days. But by keeping the faith and by working hard, the clouds will disappear. This will not happen overnight. In those dark days most of my posts did not get an up-vote or a comment. But after creating a healthy group of followers this does change. It is not that my posts are now making me rich but it is enough to keep the confidence in what I'm doing.

Followers

I do have 114 followers now. Thanks to all of you. If you are not following me yet, there is room enough for more. I do believe that I have less than 10 follow-you-follow-me followers. Probably in the dark days when I was desperate to get noticed I did step into this pitfall. But it has no use. Most of these followers aren't interested in you, they are just interested in the fact that you need to be following them. If you want to create a healthy group of followers, you can read my advice in this blogpost.
I always try to reply to comments made on my post. I wish I had the slider already that I could give you all an up vote. But if you are below 500SP you really should try to stay below 20 up-votes a day!

Quality comments

Yep, here I am again. Quality and genuine comments is the fastest way to get noticed. It also brings in the most Steem Power in my situation.

The community

If you are genuine there are a lot of wintered Steemians who are willing to help. Help can come in different formats.
Like up-votes from big Steem Powers or even a delegation in Steem Power. Thx @preparedwombat for your confidence and support in the delegation of Steem Power. You don't have an idea how much this means to me.

Trying to give something back to the community

I'm still welcoming new Steemians each day. It takes more time than I thought it would cost. But this is because I do want to welcome everybody but am more interested in people with whom I share some interest. Nerveless, if I do see a question for help in the #introduceyourself if will try to answer it.

The downsides

I cannot believe how many meaningless comments are made on posts. People stop with this, they have no use and could harm your reputation. Also on Steemit you have only one change to make an first impression.
The #introduceyourself category is flooded by people who just are there to get the newcomers as a follower. Not a real genuine welcome I think.
Still have a problem with the bots. I don't understand the purpose of most of them.

As final word (curious if you are still reading here) I want to thank again who makes Steemit a wonderful experience for me!!

Keep the faith,
Peter

I hadn't thought about those first couple sentences of a post being so important. Thanks for that idea. I went and changed the first sentence of my last post after I read that.

Best of luck to you, @fullcoverbetting

Your welcome. Thx for dropping by

I like that Idea too. And I am closing in on my first 2 months also. I have 96 followers but none seem to be reading my blogs. A more seasoned Steemian said that it is better to have 100 engaged followers than 1000 that do nothing. That is true.
How many people do you follw?
I find that going above 25 becomes too distracting and I have to drop some to maintain that number.
Best of luck, see you in the dolphin pool.

Around 40. But it is a lif list. I do unfollow people when their posts doesn’t interest me, this decision is spread out iver several posts.

Good luck!

Thx

By reading this, I don't understand why you don't have more followers. I like your advices and I for sure will follow you ( I don't say it because I think that you will follow back, hahah!)

Thx Zizzy, I guess it takes time! Will look at your blog and if it find it interesting I will stick around.
