People say it all the time. "You're so motivated!" But I'm not.
I'm not motivated to wake up at 4:30 A.M. every day. Motivation isn't what makes me workout on my own without the accountability of another. Motivation isn't the precursor to writing exercise programs, grading the papers of students, or even writing this post.
As a matter of fact, if I only got shit done when I felt motivated, I wouldn't own a business, I wouldn't be fit, and I wouldn't have a sense of purpose. And a sense of purpose... That's what I have.
I believe that action is the precursor to motivation. I believe that's why when a person starts in on a project they're dreading to begin, they suddenly find themselves three hours in and unable to stop. THAT is where motivation lies... In the midst of the hard stuff. I know what I want to accomplish in this lifetime, and a sense of purpose is what allows me to take action, even when I don't want to. Motivation, though.... That's just a beautiful after effect of getting started. Rise and grind, my friend! You don't need motivation to do it.
