I’ve been getting hate mail/comments/posts again so I guess it’s time for an update again.
A little over a month ago I began experimenting with a new form of curation. You can read about it here:
Let’s not be monkeys
It turned out to be successful within the first week and here were the results I put up:
Bot love
Since then I have managed to feature many different authors. Some of my early featured authors have begun to feature some of their own authors on the same basis.
This is all possible due to some support from some of the steemit whales and other bot operators. As long as I am doing my best to uncover, mentor and highlight other authors, rising stars and diversity of content on steemit I have managed to retain their support.
A shout out goes to:
@smooth and @steemed as the larger more consistent bot Curators. @berniesanders for the occasional drive by shooting that bowled my featured authors over. Smaller bots like @wang, @recursive, @hr etc. and then all the insect bots.
Each one has contributed to making this form of curation possible. The main purpose of this has been that the bots pull the post out of the pile to where it can be seen and then the post value grows from there based on the quality of the content.
At times I have seen comments in steemit chat which have showed that people were not aware of what was going on… I therefor put up this signature to clarify.
@gavvet features authors to promote new authors and a diversity of content. All STEEM Dollars for this post go to the featured author.
**
These are the stats of the feature curation project thus far:
**
In just over a month 70 articles have been featured from just under 30 different authors. I have been able to pay out just under $40 000 to these authors. This represents all of the STEEM Dollars that these 70 posts have earned.
In case somebody is thinking I am the steemit Saint Father Christmas
I must clarify that I have benefitted too… my SP has gone up to the same tune. My reputation has gone up to 3rd on the list and my followers have skyrocketed.
As a result even though my STEEM Dollars have remained flat due to payouts my SP has climbed and my overall wallet balance has remained pretty constant despite the drop in STEEM price.
But the greatest benefit I have received is to see authors I have featured gain a following and recognition. That they can now post under their own accounts and their articles gain votes and rewards.
It goes to show that spreading things around does not diminish them but increases them.
Now for the Nazis.
Featuring such a large number of articles and authors one is bound to bump into a dishonest actor from time to time… I have turned down a number of authors etc. due to suspected plagiarism. Last week end one slipped through. A complete rewrite from a foreign language blog… I had a gut feel about this one but let it through when it passed all of my usual checks. I will be featuring less authors as a result of this.
These are a number of users that try to run a useful service to the steemit community… The anti-plagiarism bunch over at #steemitabuse-classic.
It’s a crucial service… but really do some of you in that channel need to project the attitude of SS Nazi captains in going about your business? I now have some users from that channel trolling my posts making comments, spreading FUD about my identity, motives, intentions and methods.
Really….. In mean REALLY????
Educate yourselves, find out a little, ask around and be sure of your facts before you decide to slander or FUD another user’s reputation.
I love @awgibb featured by you and always look forward to your quality featured authors. It is your talent in picking out the articles that have made you a success. I have noticed the jealous comments lately. Jealousy shows that you are doing something right, as do mistakes. Well done and carry on!

He's great isn't he...
had the privileged of knowing him most of my life... Even greater to meet him and listen to his stories in person... that's why I "recruited" him for steemit.

For Masteryoda and yourself I gave reasoning behind my claims.
Masteryoda is cool after we talked he understands why I was rough and seems to be going well now in terms of rewards.
For your specific case (featured author exposure) @robinhoodwhale is the solution . You can join here for discussion https://steemit.chat/channel/robinhood we are currently in alpha testing and authors keep both SP, SD and any additional benefits from more exposure.

I find no fault with your reasoning (in fact I agree with and support much of it) just the attitude with which it is dispensed, leaves a bit to be desired....
Sometime it seems like you and a few of your mates have a toothbrush mustache... or perhaps my exposure to you has been when you were not at your best...
I know I have up-voted some of your content in the past

Users should be given a chance to shine on their own, going through 3rd parties means centralization especially when SP is allocated to the posting account. We will evolve one way or the other.
I've upvoted a few of yours and fellow steemian featured authors.

Unless I have missed the plot... which is entirely possible...
Giving birth to a decent sized whale at current STEEM prices is going to set someone back one or two million dollars. Just my 0.02...use it don't use it.

True, but during the alpha we have seen that people not able or not wanting to to invest funds can follow "bot" the robinhoodwhale account. New tools are on the horizon so everyone can help.

Ah I see, so he has to do it your way, why can't he do his thing and you do yours?
He didn't have to do any of this; he could have made about $30,000 all for himself, kinda like I have, but he didn't, he spread the love, which got him attention; jealous attention.
It's pathetic.

I have tried to contact you over the past few days for featuring an article with no response. My material is original and I could benefit from some exposure.

I think maybe the "nazi" metaphor is a bit too loud )))
But overall I agree with the fact that plagiasm is absolutly horrific sometimes. Just yesterday I saw a top trending post, which i knew in seconds was plagiasm.
Thanks to the help of many users here it quickly went down back to square one. The worst thing is that the guy now thinks .... that im a Nazi...
Oh wel...
Anyways, its a good thing you do.
As you might now im trying to promote the Russian comminity and i always refer people to you when they ask me to post through them, as i know they will benefit much more in both terms of SD and in temrs of following after going thorough you (thats for now, maybe one day i will catch up =)

I have known Gavin and his Family for most of his life, Good , Decent, Honest, Hard-Working People. I have led a somewhat exciting (if not always comfortable)life. Had one or 2 bad Breaks lately and he suggested that I put down a couple of life stories ( which I probably bored him with when visiting his Parents) which he could assist me with. This he has done on Steemit, I am most intrigued with what has taken place , and the reactions to the posts , and the creation of such a platform to let regular people create an audience for our many varied talents. This has forced me to do what I have been putting off for many years and stop just existing. Thank You @gavvet, you are a fine example of a caring Human Being.

Hello, just getting my handle on the radar with you @gavvet.
I think all these new authors that are making good money should be putting all their newfound wealth into steam power and taking it out over the next two years.
Anybody that comes here and begins to receive above minnow rewards in less time than it takes the average minnow lacks couth when they cash out just as fast as they can.
By not putting their new found wealth into steam power and cashing out over the next two years they keep steem from every seeing it's full potential.
Looking at it from the perspective of a minnow that is unlikely to become a whale, anyone that cashes out as fast as they can are jumping ship without helping bale.
Have a perfectly peaceful day,
FBA

I've been on steemit for a few weeks now, and posted a few short stories. One was featured in the Golden Nuggets chain, but I just want to say that I appreciate your attempts to get quality content noticed and given at least some reward. I think I like many people who are not cryto-currency gurus or well established anarchists but really dig the platform and the exposure to quality literature and art that may otherwise be unseen, dig what you are doing as it seems to me so far that when I have time, I scroll the new post section more than the trending articles of the same 10-15 who contribute to the community but get all the rewards are not in need of any attention. I still don't understand how the curation works and am personally learning to create vivid layouts for post so the next time I post it may garner more attention. Also, still not sure what happens to stories after the 24 hours period as far as rewards. There are some stories I have found that I upvote after a week or so and don't know if that has any affect or reward for the creator. Any input on this front would be appreciated... For now, when I get on here, I'm just truly digging all the great content and either read and reply, or write my own... Also, I'm presently living in Cambodia, and a few steemers I've met here seem to stay up late as most of the community seems to be North American based and tell me that the best time to post is late at night here, as it will be seen midday over there... Anyway, thanks for what you are to doing and wish you well. Check me out if you are curious at [@manicmidnight] (https://steemit.com/@manicmidnight) Sorry, still learning the linking format. In case you couldn't tell, I'm not a tech dude, but dig the platform. Steemon! I will be following you...

You are doing a really important job for the platform, since the variety of authors, topics and formats for the quality content is something that will make Steemit stable. We need more efforts like this one, and others like @robinhoodwhale, #minnowsunite, #payitforward and #spreadthepower (please add to this list if I am missing anything) will make the trending page more interesting. The platform is still in the early stage, so some of these are not very effective yet, but they (or we, as in users of steemit) are doing their/our part in making it something great! Good work, and good luck!

Hello Gavvet,
Just read all of your three posts including this one. You helped a lot of authors. Most of them are continuously creating great content due to your help to them, and the credit goes to bot curators too, for sure. I noticed your post which you reported yourself to @smooth because it was plagiarized. It might be good for you to feature less but quality authors.
Check my messages on steemit chat though.

@gavvet, I am extremely sorry to read this. I cooperated with an author you featured and it was a lovely thing that you did so. Whilst I hate cheating (and plagiarism is nothing else than just mean, unfair, cheating), I absolutely don't understand why someone would throw sh.. at you.
Please, keep up the good work.
Cheers, Ines

'Nazi' as a pejorative term, is interesting as technically if you love your country then you are nationalist and if you believe in the state providing support, then you are a socialist and if you follow both then you are a National Socialist i.e. a Nazi.
