The highest-paying tags on Steemit right now

Want to get your post trending? Tags can be the simplest way to do that!

Tags are an often overlooked or misused part of the Steemit system. It can be tricky to decide what categories your post falls into, or which tags might be most effective at getting it seen. They can be powerful tools, however, if used correctly.

Steemit has included a great way to see which tags are performing the best at any given time. Simply click on the menu (the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner of the screen) and hit 'Explore'. This takes you to a highly informative breakdown of the major tags currently being used. Not only this, the total replies and payouts for each tag are also displayed - making this a particularly great way to decide on a topic, or choose good tags for a piece you've already written. It also gives a good indication of just how much money is actually being made!

For interest's sake, let's look at a brief list of the highest-performing tags at the time of writing:

  • steem
  • steemit
  • travel
  • introduceyourself
  • life
  • photography
  • money
  • marijuana
  • crypto-news
  • bitshares
  • funny
  • food
  • anarchism

These are just a few of the most popular and profitable topics on Steemit right now. Of course, a golden rule of this network is that what's popular today might not be popular tomorrow. This list will definitely change, possibly within hours of this post, so it's a good idea to check back for up-to-date insights on what's currently trending.

One other important point: this doesn't mean that it's a good idea to tag all your posts with the top-ranking tags even if they're not about those topics, as this probably won't get you anywhere. Improper tagging will probably mean that your post just gets ignored if it's in the wrong category. More importantly, this kind of 'tag-spamming' isn't good for Steemit, so pay attention to your tags, be smart about using them, and you'll reap the benefits.

Happy tagging!

Tags and trends are well and good, but let's not get into the fallacy of chasing content blindly.

Quality is king.

No matter how well tagged and clickbaited you make something, you can't polish a turd. Post quality. Keep at it. You WILL be rewarded.

I agree entirely. Can't hurt to create more discussion about topics that people are definitely interested in, though.

Thank you for the reminder. Content is Kind. Context - as in tags, help people find the stuff they are looking for.

After reading your post, it was very informative and I just love learning new things on Steemit everyday. Have a great weekend mate! 😁😎

Nice List I will try some Thank you and I hope this works :)

thank you for the good info. i was writing about crypto news and I put "steemit " as well , and the cleaner guy said i wasn't allowed to put that for the content.. lessen learned for me ...

Some nice tips, @generalspecific. Thanks for posting. One thing that is making me scratch my head is how or who decides the tags. It shocked me to not see programming for example. Any insights how they are chosen and how they get installed?

automatically as you said, it's changing with time so it's beneficial to tag according to your write up

its useful for every steemit holder

yes my friend tag is most important in steemit they change game any time any post. always use geniune tags in your post

Hi thank you for your post. What function do you use now to find the trending posts? Seem they changed the platform and the post is a little dated.

Flagged for tag spam:

"money","anarchism","bitshares","funny","steem","steemthought","tagging","steemit-howto","steemit","travel","life","photography","introduceyourself","food","marijuana","crypto-news"

Update: OP is attempting to figure out how to remove the tags. Flag removed.

This is ironic. My post is about tags (did you read it?) and I didn't realise that adding hashes in front of the tags I was talking about would actually tag the post as such. I've edited to remove all but the relevant tags. Please unflag my post.

Actually, you modified the body of your post but left all the tags.

Damn, my bad. Fixed.
